Chapter 128 - "I can promise you that, but I have a request in exchange." (3)
“Do you have trouble sleeping? I’ve bought some incense oil that will help you sleep. Put them by your bed. And, you need to stop working till midnight. I will promise you if you promise me my conditions.”
Her voice was sweet and soft and her eyes pure, pretty, and burning with a kind of tenderness.
Lu JingYan paused for a little bit and frowned. “Did Jiang Chong tell you those as well?”
Chi Ying shook her head and said gently, “No.”
Lu JingYan’s face became tauter. “Did Chen Jin talk to you?”
Chi Ying played dumb. Given him a baffled look, she asked, “Who’s Chen Jin?”
“……It’s fine,” said Lu JingYan in a low voice.
“I don’t need to be told by anyone,” said Chi Ying suddenly. “You have dark circles under your eyes and it looked like you were having nightmares that other night.”
She said in a very serious tone. Her voice gentle and soft. Her beautiful eyelashes fluttered softly and casted a light shadow on her pale cheeks.
Lu JingYan’s face dropped.
“You behaved very well when you slept. You didn’t kick the blanket off despite your fever. But you frowned the entire night like you were having some sort of a nightmare. If it was because of something that had happened in your past, can you maybe… tried to get over it?”
Under the dim light, Lu JingYan looked worse and worse. Chi Ying lowered her eyes and continued, “I am just guessing. I’ve heard that one will have nightmares if they have bad experiences as a child. I can’t tell whether that is true or not as I have a happy childhood.”
What she said didn’t make much sense, and it was abrupt. But she really wanted to let Lu JingYan know that she had never been involved in a car accident.
It was just a dream and he didn’t need to worry about it.
Lu JingYan noticed the subtext in her words and his fingers stiffened. “You mean what you’ve said?”
Chi Ying looked up; her eyes cleared. “Hmm?”
Lu JingYan looked deeply into her eyes and couldn't help but asked. “In the past, you have always been safe and happy?”
Chi Ying curved her eyes. “My family has always been by my side and I have never been through any sort of accidents or disasters. Of course I have been healthy and happy.”
Her smile was bright and her voice soft. It sounded like a very curing medicine.
She said she had been healthy and happy.
Lu JingYan’s brows that had been furrowed relaxed slowly. His lips curved upward a little. “I didn’t have any traumatic past from my childhood either, same as you.”
“But you have too much stress from your work.” Chi Ying held onto his hands tightly. “Don’t work yourself so hard.”
Lu JingYan felt a warmth in his heart and, smiling, he said, “Okay, I will promise you all those.”
Chi Ying curved her lips. “Deal.”

Fireworks and sky lanterns were banned within the city limit so the format of the lantern show was restricted.
But there were a lot of different styles of lanterns. Each and every single one of them was well-conceived and unique. They were mesmerizing.
Chi Ying and Lu JingYan chatted with each other and gradually, the distance and unnaturally started to disappear from her voice and the two of them had never been closer.
Lu JingYan was cold and quiet, making Chi Ying seemed like a chatterbox.
Nevertheless, Lu JingYan didn’t think that she was noisy. In fact, he listened to every word of hers attentively and responded to them seriously.
His voice was low and magnetic and his words and tone were melodious. It was the type of deep voice that could charm a person.
The two of them walked around the artificial lake and walked half way around it without even realizing it. In the middle of the lake was a stone bridge.
Lu JingYan said, “Let’s cross to the other side?”
It sounded like he was asking her for her opinion but he had also picked up her hand naturally and guided her toward the bridge.
Chi Ying agreed.
She fished out her cellphone with her right hand, turned the screen on, and looked at the time.
She couldn’t stay out too late. Chi Cheng was still waiting for her to go to bed with him. But it was still early.
