Xu Chuan didn’t live too far away, about 10 minutes or so walk.
After he finished his call with Chen Nian, he didn’t call anyone else up. He just headed toward the night market by himself.
The night market was filled with the scrumptious smells of all kinds of food, making the visitors drool. Xu Chuan ignored all the other temptations and beelined toward the deepest part of the night market.
The inner areas were mostly barbeque or fried rice stands. Ingredients being poured into hot oil made loud “CHI LAH” noises.
The further down he walked, the more crowded the area got, many of them in the same field as him. He could see the lighted sign in the innermost area from afar. His eyes lit up and his steps hastened.
The not-so-big rain canopy was chalked full of people and the exhaust fan working tirelessly.
In front of the stove, there was a young woman brushing oil onto the skewers. Her actions were skillful. As soon as she finished with one end, she sprinkled spices on the other. Once she was done with that, she placed the skewers onto a plate next to her and gave it to a slightly older waiter to bring it out to the customers.
Even though he had already seen her before, his heart still skipped a beat when he saw her. Most of those who ran a booth here were 30 or older. This was the first time he had seen someone so young.
And not just young, she was also very… pretty.
It was hot in the summer, especially the temperature around the stove. Even with the fan running like mad, the one standing barbequing next to the stove was still covered in sweat.

Xu Chuan felt even hotter than he was before. He forced himself to look away and went to pick up some food with a plate in his hand. He was distracted and couldn’t control his eyes again after he had picked up a couple skewers of meat.

Xu Chuan cleared his throat and didn’t respond to him.
The stall was busy, and there were no seats available. Xu Chuan stood there for a while. After a group of people paid and left, he quickly dashed up and secured himself a spot.
The man earlier came up as well. He had a bottle of beer in his hand. He opened up the beer, took a sip, lifted his brows at Xu Chuan, and said, “Who goes first? You or me?”
Xu Chuan didn’t say anything. He saw at least five different men trying to chat her up last time he was here and she turned them all down. Xu Chuan didn’t think that he stood a chance and didn’t plan on making a fool out of himself.
The other man was an impatient man. Seeing that Xu Chuan didn’t respond to him, he stood up and walked forward. With what he thought was a charming smile, he walked over to Cheng Huan and said, “Hey there, beautiful. Are you hot?”
Cheng Huan was still focused on the timing of her barbeque. That on on top of the noises from the fan next to her, she didn’t hear him at all.
The man, who was ignored, was slightly displeased. When Cheng Huan turned around, he asked again, louder this time, “When do you get off? Let’s go to karaoke.”
Cheng Huan turned back to look at her food and said, “I don’t know how to sing.”
“That’s alright. I can teach you. I know most songs.”
“Not interested.”
