Chapter 57 - Mid-Autumn Festival (3)

On the other hand, Cheng Huan had no idea that someone was eyeing her son. After all, according to the original plotline, the male lead would only find out that he has a son when she brought her son to him two years from now. Cheng Huan had no intention in getting between the male and female leads, so she hadn’t expected that the male lead would find out about their existence from other venues.

BBQ business was the best during summer time. As the weather got colder, less and less people were willing to go out to eat.*

As her business was going up and up, Cheng Huan had saved up almost enough and would be able to move her plan of renting a storefront up the schedule. In her plan, she would preferably rent a somewhat bigger place. That way she could sell more than just BBQ.

Lamb spine hotpot, for example. There was nothing better than a fresh, tasty and warming hotpot in a cold winter.*

Looking for a storefront was much more complicated than looking for a booth. It has been a few days and Cheng Huan has yet to find a location that she liked. She was in no hurry, so she just had the management company keep an eye out for her while she immersed herself in the joy of making money.

The weather was starting to get cold and XingXing had already been attending the kindergarten for over a month. Tis was the first holiday since he had started school – Mid-Autumn Festival + National Day, eight long days of holiday!

Mid-Autumn festival this year landed on September 30 and the next day was National Day. For Chinese, festivals equated to feasting.

Cheng Huan grew up with her grandfather, and the two of them would always make their own snacks at every festival. Traditional food usually took a lot of time and effort, and she’d always grumbled toward the end of it. Nevertheless, after she had grown up, the days that she spent preparing holiday dishes with her grandfather had turned into precious memories that she’d pull out and relive over and over again during the sleepless nights.

Cheng Huan had experienced all those and also hoped that XingXing would have these types of memories as well. She didn’t plan on making anything too overly complicated. After all, all the snacks that she enjoyed back when she was a child no longer hold a lot of appeal to her.

Cheng Huan planned on making mooncakes with meat stuffing. Mooncakes with meat stuffing was a type of Su’s style mooncakes. The mooncakes that were fresh out of the oven were a golden-brown color. Their skins were crispy and powdery. During the baking process, the meat juice would slowly leak out. The outer skin was crispy and the inside soft. They also had a unique flavor of a perfect blend of sweetness and saltiness.*

XingXing was extremely eager at his mother’s suggestion of making mooncakes together. As far as he was concerned, doing anything with his mother was fun. Such as brushing his teeth, playing games at school, or cooking.

XingXing was still young and the kindergarten, worried that it wasn’t good for the kid’s digestive tracts, did not provide them with mooncakes. The little kiddo was extremely curious about the taste of mooncakes and even asked about it when he was in bed at night.

“You will see when they are done.” Cheng Huan came home early today. She was home just a bit after 9 PM and it was just 10 PM after she had bathed.

Yet it was still way past XingXing’s bedtime. Looking at the little kiddo who was still going on and on about it, Cheng Huan pulled him into her arms, patted him on his back and urged, “Alright. Stop talking and go to bed.”

“Okay.” XingXing closed his eyes in her arms.

Mid-Autumn Festival is a major holiday, so Cheng Huan decided to give herself a day off. She turned off her alarm before she went to bed thinking that it’d be okay to sleep in a bit the next morning.

Perhaps because of how relaxed she was feeling, Cheng Huan had a good night of sleep. By the time she woke up, it was already past 9 AM.

There was a crack in the curtains and some light came through it. XingXing was standing by the bed, his hand on her arm.

Translator’s rambling:

  1. I’d think one would MORE likely to have BBQ in the winter time. Sounds hella hot for the summer… not that anything could ever deter me from having skewered meats. 😊

  2. Mmmmm, hotpot. 😊~

  3. This translator has never had the so-called Su’s style mooncake. This translator is not sure how she feels about mooncakes with meat inside of it. Makes me think of European meat pies…
