Chapter 63 - First Encounter (2)

Jiang MingYuan sat at a spot that was neither too close nor too far from XingXing. Looking at his side profile, he felt a little awkward, which was unusual for him. He wanted to say something to him. He thought about it long and hard and finally started.

“What are you drawing?”

XingXing had already finished coloring in the moon and had moved onto the ground section. He first drew a square, then added four legs under it. It somewhat resembled a table but was odd-looking to say the least.

Jiang MingYuan strongly believed that if he was to make a table using that as a blueprint, it’d have fallen apart way before it was done.

“I am drawing mom and I.” XingXing felt that the uncle was good looking and was quite willing to engage with him. After he had answered his question, he even shuffled closer to him and started explaining it to Jiang MingYuan. “This is the moon and this is a table. On top of the table, there are mooncakes. I made them with my mom.

“My mom is very pretty. I haven’t drawn her yet. Give me a minute, uncle.” Having said that, XingXing moved his chair back into the lighted area and continued to work on his masterpiece.

Jiang MingYuan felt that the child was very cute. But he also felt a sense of disappointment over him referring to him as “uncle.” How could he address him as an uncle?

Jiang MingYuan was, after all, an adult and did not spend too much time dwelling over that. He recollected himself with the shortest time possible and took the opportunity to scoot closer to XingXing so he could watch him draw.

XingXing was very focused when he drew. He didn’t pay attention to anything else that was going on around him. His back was straight when he drew, unlike some child who was almost leaning over the table.

His mother had done a good job with him, thought Jiang MingYuan to himself. His impression of Cheng Huan had improved.

Because of what had transpired five years ago, he hadn’t thought very highly of the child’s mother. He had looked for her in the past and learned that she had very messy relationships and no real job. That had worsened his impression of her.

He even wondered before that perhaps she kept the child for a certain reason. Perhaps, she wanted to use him to gain certain benefits from him in the future.

Now, it seemed he had underestimated her. The child’s mother obviously cared a lot about him. That was obviously just from his drawing alone. Perhaps, her crazy past could all be chalked up to her being too young at the time.

She was, after all, quite young. Only 24 years old this year.

So she had a bit of a ridiculous past when she was young, which was no big deal. She had settled down now, and her business seemed to be going quite well. Thought Jiang MingYuan to himself as he looked around at this not-too-big booth.

This booth was slightly bigger than the others, and it was completely filled with a line outside. Most of the customers had a fairly satisfied look on them after they had eaten. He could gather that her cooking was quite good.

Perhaps influenced by the atmosphere around him, Jiang MingYuan grew curious about the barbeque and gave his chauffeur, who was waiting outside, a call. The chauffeur was a little surprised when he heard his boss’s request, but nonetheless went to stand in line as he had requested.

A woman started to appear on the piece of paper except she wasn’t pretty like XingXing said. The one that he drew was… oddly shaped.

There was a smile in Jiang MingYuan’s eyes. He remembered the drawing he was able to get his hand on from the kindergarten. The people on there were squared, like matchboxes.

Relatively speaking, this wasn’t great, but it was certainly an improvement from what was before.

Yup. He was his son after all.
