Chapter 74 - Storefront and a Cheque (2)

Cheng Huan recollected herself, looked over at XingXing, frowned and said, “A pie had just fallen from the sky.”

“Where?” XingXing thought there were pies to eat. He looked left and right and didn’t see any. Finally, he looked up and the sky and there was still nothing. A bit disappointed, he said to Cheng Huan, “Mommy, I didn’t see any.”

As much as Cheng Huan had a lot of her mind at the moment, the little kiddo’s actions still made her laugh. She smiled, pinched him on his cheek and said, “Not the kind of pie that you can eat.”

“Then what is it?” asked XingXing, baffled.

“Hmm. It’s a saying. It meant something good had happened. Pies falling from the sky meant something good had just landed on your head.”

“Oh, is that so?” XingXing got it all of a sudden, before he was confused all over again. “If it’s good things, then why isn’t mommy happy?”

“Mommy wasn’t not happy.” Nobody would be unhappy learning that they’d be millions of dollars richer. Cheng Huan just felt surreal and a little odd.

She felt that things had been going too well lately. She wanted to move to a storefront and suddenly there were cheap storefront at good location available. She needed money and suddenly there were demolition and relocation.

Even though Cheng Huan had read the novel, but the novel was about the romance between the male and female leads and not a lot of mentions about the female supporting character. Original owner first showed up at the banquet as the lover of some rich man. Cheng Huan had no idea if the original owner had experienced demolition and relocation.

Probably? Cheng Huan thought with uncertainty. Otherwise, with the original owner’s status, it must not be easy for her to be a rich man’s lover?

Even though the rich man was fat and bald.

XingXing, his mother’s arms around him, lifted up his little hand and touched her brows.

Cheng Huan frowned when she was deep in thought. He exerted some force and was finally about to flatted the frown. Looking into her eyes, he said, “Stop frowning, mommy. You are not pretty when you frown.”

Cheng Huan smiled and pushed away the odd sensation inside of her and recollected herself again. She picked up XingXing’s little hand and gave him a kiss on his palm. “Okay, okay. No more frowning. You play here for a bit by yourself, darling. Mommy will go make you lunch.”

“I will go make lunch with you, mommy!” said XingXing loudly while following behind her.

Ever since they had made mooncake during mid-autumn festival, XingXing had developed great interest in cooking and wanted to “help out” all the time.

He couldn’t do much so “helping out” really meant causing troubles. Yet he felt very good about himself.

Cheng Huan didn’t want to knock on his confidence so she had to agree to it. She brought over a small stool, gave him a bok choy, and said, “XingXing only need to wash the vegetables. Mommy will take care of the rest.”

“Okay!” The bright green bok coy was bought from someone who had grown it at home. Home grown vegetables were always fresher.

Standing on the stool, XingXing peeled off half a piece of bok choy and rinsed it under the tap. He was very detailed when it came to washing the vegetable. He washed it in and out several times. When he was done, what was once a great-looking bok choy was already very soggy and the outer layer was nowhere to be seen.

Sending her son away, Cheng Huan quickly grabbed some rice and started on it. She stirred fried some shrimp with asparagus, steamed an egg, and stirred fried some bok choy.

After she had placed the bok choy into a plate, she turned and looked. Sure enough, XingXing never finished rinsing the bok choy.

The piece of bok choy that was given to him was now in finger-size pieces. XingXing had peeled off the membrane on both sides when he washed them and the washed vegetables looked completely droopy. He placed them neatly by the side of the sink and could only be thrown out as garage and nothing else.

Cheng Huan sighed helplessly and wished to herself that XingXing’s interest in cooking would go away soon. She placed the food on top of the dinner table and called out to XingXing.

“Wait for me, mommy.” XingXing didn’t even look up, “I am almost done.”
