Chapter 384 - Level I Restaurant (2)

Standing next to the chair blushing, a thought crossed Wen Rugui’s mind all of a sudden – Tong Mianmian had returned at the most inopportune time.

Tong Xuelu returned with Tong Mianmian in her hand. She saw that Wen Rugui was still standing where he was. She blinked at him as she walked past. “I’ll let you clear your name next time.”

“! ! !”

Wen Rugui’s heart started pounding madly all over again.

If that was the way to clear his name, he wouldn’t mind being misunderstood from time to time!

Seeing that his ears reddened bit by bit again, Tong Xuelu brought the little bun inside to change with a smile on her.

When she walked back out, she paid Wen Rugui rent for the next three months.

Wen Rugui didn’t want to take it but Tong Xuelu insisted that he did.

Them being boyfriend and girlfriend and him supporting her entire family were two different things.

Even when the two got married in the future, Wen Rugui was not obligated to raised the Tong’s siblings.

Wen Rugui did not have time off a lot. As such, Tong Xuelu must make him some good food.

She went to make a set of red date and walnut cake before the two brothers got home.

After she had stir fried the walnut until aromatic, she pitted the dates cut the into slices. She then added maltose, water, and oil into a pot. She brought them to a boil with medium heat before she turned it down and allowed it to shimmer. When the mixture started to bubble, she added in the dates, walnuts, and sesame and mixed them all up.

She poured the mixture into a platter, rolled it out with a rolling pin, and allowed it to cool and solidify.

When the sun began to set, Tong Xuelu started with dinner.

She planned to make a hot and numbing dry pot tonight.

She skinned and sliced lotus roots and potatoes, cut up celeries, mushrooms, and beef meatballs before cooked them all in a pot. When they were all cooked, she pulled them out of the pot to dry. She started a new pot and cooked the beef tripe for a quick few seconds in boiling water.

She added oil to a cold wok. When the wok was heated up, she added in ginger, garlic, green onion, peppercorn, and other spices. When it was aromatic, she added in the cooked ingredients and stirred them all up. Finally, she added in a handful of sesame before she plated them. And that was how hot and numbing dry pot was made.

She also stir fried a dish of vegetables plus a tomato and egg drop soup.

The lotus root was crispy, the potato soft, the beef meatball tasty. All of that along with the mushroom taste combined to give a numbing, hot, and tasty sensation. The whole family got greasy mouths from the food.

Tong Jiaxin secretly hoped that Wen Rugui would come over more often in the future. That way he would get yummy food all the time.

After dinner, Tong Xuelu cut the solidified red date and walnut cake into pieces for Wen Rugui to bring home with him.

The night got thicker and the leaves rustled in the wind.

Tong Xuelu retracted her neck some when she saw Wen Rugui to the door. “It’s cold. Hurry on home.”

Wen Rugui acknowledged her and, looking at her empty neck, had an idea.

The weather is getting colder and she seemed to be missing a scarf.

She refused to take the rent back. But he could turn the money into a gift for her.

Back at the military compound.

Wen Rugui saw Pu Jianyi sitting on the couch in the living room the second he walked inside the house.

Pu Jianyi looked up when he heard the noise. “Finally you are back!”

Wen Rugui was startled when he looked over. “Whatever had happened to you?”

It had only been a month since he had last saw Pu Jianyi but Pu Jianyi was disheveled like a middle-aged man who had been through a lot. His beard was unkempt. He had dark circles under his eyes and his cheeks were sunken.

Before Pu Jianyi could respond, Old Mr. Wen saw what Wen Rugui was holding in his hand and asked, “What’s that in your hand?”

“It’s dates and walnut cake.” Wen Rugui handed them over but did not forget to add, “You shouldn’t intake too much sugar, Grandpa.”

Old Mr. Wen grunted and said, “You just want more for yourself is all. Don’t use me as an excuse!”

Having said that, he brought some dates and walnut cake with him to show off to Old Mr. Jiang next door.

Nobody knew where Uncle Zong had gone to and Wen Rugui and Pu Jianyi were the only two left in the living room.
