The paramedics immediately walked up, put Old Madam on a stretcher, and carried her to the ambulance.

Old Mrs. Song slowly closed her eyes and slipped out of consciousness.

With her three minutes used up, Ning Zhi had returned to her normal state where nobody could see her.

Holding onto Lu Jue’s hand, she said in an affirmative tone, “I am sure Grandma will be fine this time.”

Lu Jue’s face was pale too, and the anxiousness in his pitch-black eyes was not entirely gone. His fringes in front of his forehead were messy, and his lips were shut tightly, looking like he was still worried about his grandmother.

He wasn’t entirely clueless. Ning Zhi saw him frantically looking for Grandma’s medicine when she returned to the tearoom.

Except Lu Shenyuan had taken them away with him.

Ning Zhi recalled that that was exactly what had happened before she had made this trip to fix things. Lu Shenyuan had taken the medicine away with him, and Lu Jue frantically looked for them. That had led to Grandma not being able to be saved and passed away.

Everyone thought that Lu Jue while being with Grandma during the episode didn’t do a thing. They all believed that he didn’t react to it, didn’t know how to help her, and had caused her death.

Everybody blamed Lu Jue for not doing anything to save his grandmother.

Even Mother Lu felt that way for a little while. She had come around later on, but she did blame Lu Jue for it for a while in her mind.

Looking at the young man next to her, what had he done wrong?

If he did anything wrong, then his fault was that he didn’t know how to speak up for himself and tell the others that they were wrong about him.

Everybody looked at him, scolded him, and placed the blame on him, and he could do nothing but tolerate them.

Even on the night that Grandma had passed away, he had run out to that pitch-black little corner, hiding there in the rain and licked his own wound like an injured and abandoned little beast.

Recalling Lu Jue’s reddened eyes at Grandma’s funeral the previous time, Ning Zhi felt her nose tingling.

Luckily, things would be different this time.

Mother Lu and Song Ruo left worriedly with the paramedics, and the tearoom was quiet once again.

Ning Zhi reached her hand out and stroked Lu Jue on his head gently. She smoothed the messy fringes in front of his forehead and said to him tenderly, “Grandma will make it.”

Looking at her, Lu Jue held onto Ning Zhi’s hand tightly. He could feel a swelling in his chest as though something wanted to break free. It was an odd sensation.

Pinching his lips shut a little, his voice was dull, hoarse, and filled with desire. “Odd Big Sister, Odd Big Sister……”

Old Mrs. Song’s condition stabilized after being taken to the hospital.

Song Ya, Mother Lu, and her sister Song Ruo, finally asked about the incident after their mother had regained consciousness.

“Did you guys see a girl in the house before I was taken to the hospital?” asked Old Mrs. Song.

“What girl?” Mother Lu and Song Ruo were baffled.

“A very pretty girl. I think she was the one who saved me when I was having my episode.” Old Mrs. Song was not entirely certain. She was in and out of consciousness at the time. It felt like she was dreaming.

“Mom, you must be seeing things. You and Xiao Jue were the only ones there when we went inside the tearoom. Xiao Jue was so worried that he was all pale,” said Mother Lu.

She recalled that she had had the episode suddently and that her grandson had no idea what was going on. Naturally, he was scared. “It was Xiao Jue who called the ambulance?”

Mother Lu nodded. “I think so. The call was made from Xiao Jue’s cellphone.”

A smile appeared on Old Mrs. Song’s sickly face. “Xiao Jue knew to call for an ambulance. He is improving.”

Mother Lu was scared after the fact, however.

She recalled that Xiao Jue was the only one there when her mother had her episode. Had her son not looked or listened, she couldn’t imagine what would have happened.
