Chapter 310 - He was too overly mature for his age. (3)

After getting off the call, Ning Zhi saw the reports that the bodyguard had sent over to her. The little boy’s name was Song Song, and he was not the man’s birth son.

Ning Zhi paused a little. No wonder the middle-aged man was so vicious with Song Song.

He was not his real son.

Ning Zhi kept on reading. According to the reports, Song Song was the son brought by the middle-aged man’s wife when they got married. They were still looking into the wife, but according to the report, she had disappeared shortly after she married the man.

Most importantly, the woman and the man only held a banquet but never got married officially.

Ning Zhi’s eyes dimmed a little.

The car drove to the start of an alleyway where the houses around were beaten down, clearly showing their ages. The surrounding environment was also somewhat noisy.

A few individuals were standing not too far from the alleyway chatting and smoking. On the other side, a group of people even set up a small table and sat around, playing poker.

Ning Zhi frowned.

“Young Madam, Song Daihai lived in the unit with the black metal door over there, and that is where Song Song lives.”

The bodyguard in the driver’s seat parked the car and carried on to say, “The individuals here are from all walks of life, and this is not the safest environment, Young Madam. It’s best that you stay inside the car.”

Ning Zhi was too pretty and dressed too delicately. She would attract too much attention here, and it would not be safe for her.

Ning Zhi acknowledged his advice. She, too, knew that she should not just show up here without a good reason.

Suddenly, she saw the black metal door open up, and out walked Song Daihai. He was dragging Song Song out by his collar. Suddenly, he tossed him out of the door.

Song Song was small and scrawny. What was once his chubby cheeks had shrunk. His eyes were rounder and blacker. He lost balance from being tossed and fell onto the ground.

Nevertheless, little Song Song didn’t cry but got back up on his own.

“Daihai, are you hitting your son again?” A man sitting at the little table with a cigarette in his mouth smiled and said, “The kid is still so young. Don’t always be hitting him like that. It makes me feel bad.”

The middle-aged man, Song Daihai, smiled. “Oh, you feel bad for him, huh? You can have him then. You can take him home with you, so he could stop wasting my food.”

The man bit down on his cigarette and smiled awkwardly. “I have quite a few mouths to feed at home too. I don’t have the extra money to feed another child.”

“Then shut up already,” snapped Song Daihai as he patted away the non-existing dust on his hands.

“There’s no need to be so short-tempered. Here. Sit in and play a round for me,” said another slightly chubby man with a smile.

Song Daihia was tempted. He rubbed his hands together and walked over. “Sure. Just one round.”

Ning Zhi looked at little Song Song, who was standing quietly not too far away. He reminded her of how Lu Jue looked when he stood quietly at the side when he was still a child.

Her brows furrowed. There was a very unpleasant feeling inside of her.

In the meantime, the door next to Song Daihai’s place opened up, and an old grandmother walked out from the inside.

Ning Zhi saw that she had a bowl in her hand as she walked over slowly toward little Song Song.

The old grandmother handed the bowl over to little Song Song and said, “Grandma just made some dumplings. They are delicious. Here, have some.”

Little Song Song was obviously familiar with the old grandmother. He looked up at her and took the bowl from her obediently.

Ning Zhi saw little Song Song standing there just like that, nibbling on the dumplings with his head lowered.

Those who were playing poker saw that, as did Song Daihai. He chuckled and said, “That lucky little brat. He gets yummy food from Grandma Yu every day.”

The man with the cigarette between his lips couldn't help but say, “That’s because you don’t feed the child, and Grandma Yu couldn’t bear to watch it anymore. Seriously, you shouldn’t go this far.”

“I’m going too far? I am raising someone else’s son for nothing. What am I doing wrong here? If I don’t have a conscience, I would just toss him out and let him starve to death.” Song Daihai didn’t think that the woman would leave the child and take off. He was still so angry that he gritted his teeth.

As long as he kept the child with him, the woman would certainly return one day. Then they could settle their scores.

Sitting inside the car, Ning Zhi saw that little Song Song finished the bowl of dumplings while standing, and it looked like he even finished up the soup inside the bowl. Then, he pulled up the bottom of his beat-up clothes and carefully wiped the bowl and the chopsticks.

When little Song Song felt that the bowl had been cleaned, he walked over to the old grandmother's place and carefully placed the bowl and chopsticks on the ground, apparently waiting for the old grandmother to take them back.

He was too overly mature for his age.
