Chapter 16 - “Do not let go of him! Or I shall call the police!” (1)
“So he’s that precious son of yours?” No wonder I thought the name Luo Xiu sounded so familiar when the assistant director said it!” Standing with the other two outside of the director team’s temporary office, Jiang Xiaoqing suddenly got it.
Qin Yuanyuan nodded as well. “No wonder you changed your mind all of a sudden.”
Gu Nian’s eyes were beaming and the corners of her mouth started lifting up controllably. “You don’t need to worry about the new character. I can take care of it.”
“No way. I want to help you with it!” said Jiang Xiaoqing as she wrapped her arms around Gu Nian.
Qin Yuanyuan, “You were the one who did the outline and split it into episodes last time. You should let us help you this time.”
Gu Nian thought about it some. “Alright then.”
Once the three of them had made up their minds, Gu Nian was the first to walk over and expressed it to the assistant director who were waiting outside the door.
The assistant director gave her a peculiar look. “You’ve decided to do it?”
“Yes.”
“You sure you want to want to finish the screenplay?”
“Yes.”
The assistant director smiled and shook his head. “Oh, you younglings nowadays. Is it really this useful to be good looking?”
Before Gu Nian could even say anything, Jiang Xiaoqing’s head popped out from behind her. “Eh? Is he really that good looking? I never believed it when Gu Nian told me before.”
Assistant director Lin, “He toured the courtyard of the production team this afternoon, a bunch of girls from the camera team, field service team, costume and makeup team came running over wanting to find out more about you. You tell me.”
Jiang Xiaoqing’s interest was piqued immediately. “Oh! I want to see!”
Gu Nian felt both proud and relieved. Nevertheless, she still cruelly signaled Qin Yuanyuan with a look and the two of them worked together at carrying away the struggling Jiang Xiaoqing.
Before they take off, Gu Nian asked the assistant director, “We will go and work on the new role. Can we contact my prec, ahem, the actor before we finalize anything?”
The assistant director nodded. “Of course. I’ll let him know.”
“Thank you, Assistant Director.”
And Gu Nian left happily while carrying Jiang Xiaoqing with her.
Looking at the back of the three girls, especially the one who looked like she was out of battery on their way there, Assistant Director Lin smiled and shook his head as he knocked on the door and walked inside the office.
Sitting behind a table, Director Geng Hongyu frowned and asked the assistant director as he walked inside, “What was that all about?”
“Oh, they are the screenwriter team. The one who walked in here was Gu Nian. She was the primary creator of the screenplay.”
Geng Hongyu, “Then why did they leave?”
“They were here to complain about the addition of another character.”
“And?”
Hearing that, even Luo Xiu, sitting next to the table, looked up and met the smiling look coming from Assistant Director Lin. “Luo Xiu is so good looking that as soon as the little girl Gu Nian caught a glance of him, she immediately agreed to adding another character.”
Geng Hongyu paused a little, then bustled out laughing. “Good. Being able to captivate audiences is a good thing.”
“……”
Luo Xiu smiled nonchalantly and lowered his eyes.
Inside his dark brown eyes, the smile lightened and thinned out.
He looked outside the window, disinterested. It was the middle of summer and the sound of cicadas could be heard coming from the trees.
They were all noisy cicadas.
To think that he had thought that one of them might be different; but turned out he was wrong.

That night, Gu Nian obtained the Luo Xiu’s contact information from Assistant Director Lin.
“I have already given Luo Xiu a heads up. You can arrange to talk to him about the role whenever is good for you and also walk him through the screenplay.”
“Okay!”
Her precious son’s contact information in hand, Gu Nian rolled onto her hard plank bed and cried an old mother’s tears of joy.
Even Jiang Xiaoqing couldn't help but teased her, “Okay, now I have really seen it all. A woman who had never been a luck-struck fool was bad when she becomes one.”
Qin Yuanyuan smiled without parting her lips. “Gu Nian is not that same as you. She is not being a love-struck fool. Right, Gu Nian?”
“That’s right.” Gu Nian rolled around for half a circle and sat up. With a solemn look, she said, “My motherly love for him will never change.”
“Eh, I don’t believe it.”
It’s the new year AND Son, “Mom” Will Back You’s reading list is etching oh-so-close to 500 (currently at 498) so it’s only right to post a part! I will post a second part tomorrow as well. After that I promise I will try very, very hard to finish up the chapter and keep the posting going.
