The silence hung on the tie that had been gripped for a long time and finally drop with a glance from Luo Xiu.
The man’s voice was deep and there was an almost undetectable hint of coldness hidden in the tenderness. “Asking me that in a public place? What an interesting choice, Miss Gu.”
Gu Nian: … … Hmm?
Was that a compliment from her precious son?
She wasn’t really following Luo Xiu’s logic but that didn’t stop the unsuspecting old mother from responding humbly to what he had said. “No, no. It just occurred to me suddenly was all.”
“What kind of an answer does Miss Gu wish to hear?”
“Who? Me?” Gu Nian was surprised.
“Mmhmm.” Luo Xiu looked up, almost looking profound. “Since you’ve picked to ask me right here and right now, I trust that Miss Gu is well prepared for whatever my answer might be?”
Gu Nian was dumbfounded. “Um, I guess so… I will always be supportive of you whichever way you want to go!”
Luo Xiu smiled when he heard that answer. He didn’t seem convinced. “Is that so?”
“That is so!”
Luo Xiu did not carry on the conversation of how much truth there was in what she had said. In his mind, the truth was only too obvious. “I would like to listen to Miss Gu’s suggestion though.”
Gu Nian was taken aback a little then, tears welled up in her eyes. “You are so respectful to mom…, ahem, my thoughts?”
“Mmhmm. After all, Miss Gu was the one who brought this up.”

Gu Nian instantly felt two huge mountains landing on her two shoulders. The one on the left was “motherly love” and the right, “responsibilities” –
Was this feeling of being both mom and dad what people refer to as the “sweet burden”?

She was finally going to grow into the good mother that was recognized by her precious son.
