He stopped himself the last minute but decided to give her a hard time. He stood up, smiled, and said to Gu Nian, “You accepted cheerfully last time. What’s up with this time?”
Gu Nian, “I did not accept ‘cheerfully’ last time either…”
Assistant Director Lin pretended that he didn’t hear her. Glancing over at the man sitting behind her with a nonchalant look and a hint of s mile, he said in a low voice, as though instigating, “Other scenes are okay but not a kiss scene? How come it sounds like you have something against Luo Xiu?”
Gu Nian, “? ?”
Gu Nian, “No, no, no. That is not true. Now you are just putting words into my mouth!”
With her back to Luo Xiu, Gu Nian tried to wave her hands in front of her as best she could, trying to stop Assistant Director Lin before he went any further.
Assistant Director Lin, being the happy bystander, had no reason to stop there. He took things one step further.
“Oh? Was I wrong about that? Speaking of, you were reluctant about that previous scene too, huh?”
Gu Nian, “… … … …”
Was the director team trying to retaliating for everything that she had done to them before they wrap up their work there?
Seeing that Gu Nian did not react to that, Assistant Director Lin smiled and looked up, pretending that he was about to say something to Luo Xiu.
This time around, Gu Nian dare not give him the opportunity to say anything else. She quickly cut him off, “I have personal reasons!”
Assistant Director Lin paused, “Hmm?”
Gu Nian, “It’s because, because…”
“Because what?” asked Assistant Director Lin.
Gu Nian, “Because I have a boyfriend. So it’s not appropriate for me to be in kiss scene or body double!”
-- When all else failed, Gu Nian decided to, once again, bring out her wild-card, Schrodinger’s boyfriend as her shield.
Assistant Director Lin nodded matter-of-factly, “Oh, so that is the reason?”
Gu Nian, with a guilty conscience, said, “Of course. What else could it be… I have a boyfriend already and I am not a professional actress. My boyfriend will, for sure, be unhappy if he learns of the kiss scene.”
Assistant Director Lin, “That’s great. You are a girl with principles and very nice to your boyfriend.”
Gu Nian, “Exactly. I am a good girlfriend!”
Assistant Director Lin tried not to laugh. He looked up and looked behind Gu Nian.
The man standing there still did not move one bit. There was some sort of a tree outside of the old-fashioned window. It’s leaves, wavering in the wind, casted shadows that stacked upon one another like waves on his light-colored shirt.
His cold, brown eyes, hidden behind those thin lens, were half lit and half dark. His real emotions hidden behind them.
At a certain point in time, he seemed to have noticed Assistant Director Lin looking at him and slowly looked up. He gave him a nonchalant smile and nodded.
Assistant Director Lin was taken aback.
His slight intention of waiting for drama was exposed entirely under the man’s eyes.
Everybody hated looks like that.
He acted like someone looking down from high above with sort of a cold squint, as well as the kind of indifference that could make one’s skin crawl in this hot summer time.
It was the first time that Assistant Director Lin, at his age, was looked at like this by someone so young. He was a little baffled, then he quickly recalled what lurked behind this person.
It was a giant monster. At least it wasn’t something that him… er, everyone in the entire production team combined, could take on.
With a “hot shot” like him on their team, all he needed to do was to stand in the office like he was doing right now to cool the entire room.
Assistant Director Lin dared not fuel the drama any more than he already did. Recollecting himself, he said, “Screenwriter Gu had agreed to it. What about you, Mr. Luo?”
As the little girl standing in front of Assistant Director Lin turned around and looked at him, Luo Xiu looked back and suppressed the little bit of emotions under his eyes, and said, “I am fine with it as well.”
“Oh good, it is set then. You two can head back to the studio and get ready.”
