Chapter 128 - We Are A Family (3)

“Yeah, I want to go check out the shop.” Cheng Huan grabbed her purse and asked the man, “What time will you be leaving?”

“Probably around 3-ish. Why?”

“Can you watch over XingXing for me then? It’s so cold outside that I don’t want to bring him with.”

“Sure. Of course.” Jiang MingYuan took a step to the side while holding XingXing’s hand. “It’s very windy outside. Why don’t I have my chauffeur take you?”

Having a chauffeur who could take here there would, of course, be much better than her taking a taxi on her own. It was so cold in the winter time that nobody would want to wait for a car in the wind. Cheng Huan liked the idea but still said hypocritically, “Oh, that’d be too much trouble.”

“Not at all. My chauffeur is right downstairs.” Jiang MingYuan let go of XingXing. Left him inside of the house, walked outside himself, and pressed the button for the elevator. He then went downstairs with her.

“Good bye.”

“Be safe.”

The two of them waved to each other from inside and outside of the car. The car started and drove out of the underground parking garage.

Jiang MingYuan watched for a while before he turned back and headed toward the elevator. Once outside of the front door, he pulled out the house key.

Cheng Huan had just given this to him.

When XingXing saw Jiang MingYuan, he walked up to him immediately. He still remembered that Daddy said he wanted to get some sleep. Now that Mommy was gone, he got to be the one who make decisions around here. He started dragging Daddy toward the bedroom.

Jiang MingYuan didn’t follow him this time. He held his son’s hand back, picked him up and placed him on the couch. “Alright, son. Daddy’s not sleepy anymore. Let’s play some games.”

He had, after all, made a promise to his mother. He couldn’t very well break his promise.

XingXing was, of course, much rather his daddy played with him than sleeping. The little kiddo quickly accepted his suggestion. He lifted the Nine Links in his hand and said, “Let’s play this, Daddy.”

“Okay.”

Cheng Huan got back a little bit later than expected. It was almost 4 o’clock when she got home. By the time she walked inside, Jiang MingYuan had already finished teaching XingXing how to take the Nine Links apart.

Seeing that the mistress of the house was back, both the father and son walked up to her. XingXing put his arms around her leg and showed her the Nine Link that he had taken apart. Jiang MingYuan, standing to one side, smiled and nodded at her when she looked over at him, gesturing her that he had completed his assignment perfectly.

It was sprinkling outside again and Cheng Huan’s body was still a bit cold. Her shoes were half wet. Even her hair that fell down her side wasn’t as poofy as they were when she left. She had a cake box in one of her hands. She handed the box over to XingXing and he happily walked away with it to enjoy his cake.

“I apologize. It took a bit longer than I had expected.” Cheng Huan felt a little bit of a guilty conscience. “Did that affect your work?”

“No, it’s fine. I don’t have that much work this afternoon. Plus, it was me who asked my chauffeur to wait for you.” He even joked with her. “What’s the point of making so much money if I can’t take any time off at all?”

“That is true.” Cheng Huan agreed with him. “Work-life balance is important.”

It was getting late and almost time to start preparing dinner. Cheng Huan took off her coat, put on her cotton slippers, and was about to head to the kitchen. “Are you going to have dinner here?”

“No, not tonight.” He wasn’t done with his work today yet. Jiang MingYuan’s free time right now was a tradeoff for working overtime tonight. He probably wouldn’t be able be going to bed before midnight. “I still have some things to take care of. I should head out.”

“That urgent?” Cheng Huan frowned slightly. She wasn’t standing too far away from the man and could see that his eyes were blood shot. It was quite obvious that he hasn’t been getting much sleep for a while now.

“How long is this going to last?” Out of the ordinary, she asked out of concern.

“Soon. This month is the busiest.” Jiang MingYuan bent over, pulled out his own shoes from the shoe cabinet, and changed into them. He stood up and said, “What say we go on a trip in January? We can look for a warmer location. City C is so cold this year.”

Cheng Huan was a little tempted. This city was quite similar to where she was in her previous life. It was cold and wet in the winter time and very uncomfortable.

It’s just that…

“There was only three-day time off over the new year. Isn’t that a bit short?”

“Not that short if we are not going overseas. We can stay the night.” Jiang MingYuan has already had a few destinations in mind but this was not a good time to go into the details. He buttoned up his suit, straightened out his tie, and said goodbye to Cheng Huan. “I am taking off now. Let’s talk about where we want to go next time.”

Having said that, he was about to walk outside of the door.

“Wait here.” Seeing how tired he looked. Cheng Huan thought about it for a bit and stopped him. She turned around and pulled out a can from the refrigerator. She handed the plastic can over to him and said, “Here’s some mint candies that I made myself. They are very refreshing. You look pretty tired. Have a couple from time to time.”
