Chapter 132 - "Help, Daddy! Help!"

Following the address provided to him by Xu Li, Li KangYi was able to locate Cheng Huan’s new shop quickly.

Businesses was booming inside. It was close to 60% full at 9 PM. Li KangYi walked inside and randomly ordered a few dishes before he sat and looked around.

He waited until past 10 PM.

The mall closed at 10:30 PM and the shops inside would close before that. By 10 PM, most of the customers were already gone and Li KangYi was the only one remaining.

The servers could not go home if there were still customers inside the shop. Seeing employees from all the surrounding shops closing up and leaving, the servers at the restaurant were getting anxious. They congregated around the cash registered and exchanged looks with each other. Finally a taller server walked over to Li KangYi and asked subtly, “Hi Sir, would you like to order anything else? The mall will be closing soon.”

Li KangYi was anxious as well. He waited for over an hour and still did not spot his target. He started wondering whether Xu Li had given him a wrong address but he couldn’t just ask outright. He wasn’t very happy that the server was hinting for him to leave but he also understood that what she said was true. He stood up reluctantly and paid at the cash register.

There were plenty of workers congregated over at the cash register, all of them waiting to take off. Li KangYi looked around and still didn’t see the one that he was looking for. Handing his card over to the cashier, he pretended to ask nonchalantly, “You guys stay open late.”

It could have been earlier, had you not stayed so late.

Thought the cashier but she maintained a smile on her. Taking his bank card from him, she swiped it and had him entered his pin.

After he had paid, Li KangYi wanted to ask about the situation about their boss but all of the employees left immediately to clean up, including the cashier. She grabbed a rag and started wiping down the cash register after returning the card to Li KangYi.

Li KangYi looked even more unhappy not being able to ask what he had wanted to. He put away his wallet, took a couple deep breaths and left the mall feeling disgruntled.

Li KangYi’s failed attempt, nevertheless, did not dissuade him. In the next few days that followed, he’d run over to Rongjiang any night that he was free. He’d stay still the night every time but, unfortunately, after all those times, he still had not run into Cheng Huan.

There weren’t a lot of customer at night and someone like him stood out a lot. After a couple of days, all of the servers at the restaurant were familiar with him and would even chat him up sometimes when business was slow.

Li KangYi was more than happy to chat with them. He looked down on them; he felt that they were unambitious for working in a restaurant. But for his own agenda, he acted very friendly toward them and were best of buds with some of the male servers after just a few days.

Once he was familiar with the employees, it was much easier to get information from them. He only needed to chat about their work from time to time during their conversations and he’d be able to find out information on Cheng Huan.

As such, he finally found out why he had never once ran into Cheng Huan all these times.

She never went to the shop at night!

Once he found that out, Li KangYi was extremely bothered by it. He wrapped up the conversation quickly and got up to pay.

“Aye, you leaving so early today?” asked the server next to him.

“Yeah, I have something else to go take care of.” Li KangYi no longer want to waste his time there now that he found out Cheng Huan would not be there. He uttered an acknowledgement, paid, and took off immediately.

Walking out of the mall, cold breeze hit him immediately. Li KangYi shrank back and cussed. “This damn weather.” He jogged over to his car and drove away.

The server told him that their boss would normally visit the shop on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays and those were the days that Li KangYi would shoot for. End of the year was busy so he wouldn’t be able to go on a regular workday at all. Sunday was New year’s eve and he has a few days off.
