Chapter 187 - “I want Daddy and Mommy to live together.” (3)
“There are three bedrooms. One’s mommy’s, one’s XingXing’s, and a guest bedroom.” There was not a lot of inflection in Jiang MingYuan’s voice. After he was done talking, he noticed the look on XingXing and added, “You are a big kid now. Other kids will make fun of you if you continue to sleep with your mom.”
XingXing pouted severely and stared at his father for a long time before he looked up at Cheng Huan sitting by the end of the bed. His voice sad, “Mom!”
“Hmm?” Cheng Huan looked up from her cellphone and looked at her son. “What’s the matter?”
“Daddy won’t let me sleep with you!”
“Oh, yeah.” Cheng Huan nodded in agreement. “You are a big kid now. You should sleep on your own.”
XingXing, being very hopeful in his mother but having her picked the other side, was crushed. He pouted so much that his face resembled a pufferfish. He laid down and pulled the blanket over himself, leaving just his eyes out. With a loud hrumph, he tried to regain some pride. “I don’t want to sleep with you either!”
Cheng Huan shrugged and only responded with an “oh”, seeming particularly cold.
Truth was, she didn’t resent too much sleeping with XingXing but she just read an article a couple of days ago saying that a 5 ~ 6-year-old child would start becoming aware of the concept of sex and that parents should not brush that off casually.
Besides… the little kid has a strong curiosity and sometimes that would cause problems.
For example, when Cheng Huan had her period last time, she had inadvertently got some blood on the sheets. When XingXing saw it the next day, he asked her anxiously whether she was hurt. She didn’t know what to say to hi and spent a long time to convince him that she wasn’t sick or going to die.
As such, as unwilling as XingXing was, sleeping in separate bed was a necessity.
All in all, XingXing was an optimistic one. He was only unhappy for a very short time after the bad news. Before Jiang MingYuan was even able to figure out how to cheer him up, he had already recovered all on his own and continued to ask about the new place.
“Daddy, where will I keep my toys?”
“The toys will go on the second floor. Daddy had a big play room prepared for you. You can just take the elevator up whenever you want to play with them.”
The elevator was built-into the apartment but XingXing didn’t know that. He thought it’d be similar to their current place and would require going inside the front door again after he reached the second floor.
As such, Jiang MingYuan went on to explain the difference between the elevators and, at the same time, also described his own place to him.
He lived in a three-story apartment by himself and has a lot of empty rooms. After hearing that, XingXing was baffled, “Why are the rooms empty?”
“Because nobody lives in them.”
“Mommy and I can live in them.” XingXing switched to a new posture and laid down spread-eagled in bed. Tilting his head to look at his father, he said to him, “Daddy, I don’t want to take an elevator to play with my toys.”
He didn’t really grasp the concept of an indoor elevator, just felt that it would be a hassle to go up and down stairs.
Jiang MingYuan gave Cheng Huan a look with hesitation.
“I am fine with him living with you,” said Cheng Huan calmly after a slight pause.
They were just talking about upstairs and downstairs. It wouldn’t make much difference where he stayed.
That, however, did not successfully placate the little kid. He pushed his agenda further. “Mommy will be living in the big house by herself? Why don’t you come live together with us?”
Even Cheng Huan noticed something was off by now. Putting her cellphone away, she walked over and gave XingXing a dangerous look. “Okay. Out with it. What is it that you want?”
XingXing was startled by his mother’s tone and pulled himself further under the blanket. But he was still going to get out what he was trying to say. Through the blanket, he said with muffled voice, “I want mommy and daddy to live together.”
He felt much braver after he had said that. Flipping the blanket over, he started to complain. “All the other kids’ daddies and mommies live together, except for you two! You are both mean!”
Even though XingXing had no idea why other’s daddy and mommy slept together, but he was sure that that was the right thing to do!
