Chapter 257 - "Are you not feeling well?" (3)

As much as Jiang MingYuan had tried, Cheng Huan still found out about the incident after three days.

From her own employees no less.

Other melon eaters might not remember what the person in the center of a scandal looked like after the fact but that did not apply to the employees at the lamb restaurant. They had known Cheng Huan for months. How would they not recognize their boss as the female lead in the scandals?

Reading about all the truthful and untruthful news on their boss, all of them looked a bit awkward when they saw Cheng Huan. Some with decent relationships with her even tried to pry indirectly.

As such, the oblivious center-of-attention finally had a piece of the not-so-tasty melon from the screen shots on her employees’ phones.

After learning of the incident, Cheng Huan only had one thought: So that was why Jiang MingYuan’s phone was “broken.”

She wasn’t, after all, the person who had carried out all the acts so she felt detached from them. She wasn’t sad about them but more worry whether Jiang MingYuan would be bothered by them.

It certainly did not see that way judging from his behavior the last few days. In fact, their relationship seemed to have been improving over the last few days. He had been staying over later and later. At this rate, Cheng Huan wasn’t even sure how much longer she could hold out for.

Aye, she would just let things take their own course. It was no big deal after all.

The thought of the man’s more and more intense gaze made the tips of Cheng Huan’s ears burned a little. She handed the cellphone back to her employee, checked the books for the last few days like she normally would, and went into the kitchen to work on new dishes with the chefs.

They had been working on new dishes for a while now and had been working on improving it for the last few days. The chef made the dish as they were discussing over it. Cheng Huan picked up the chopsticks and was about to have a try. Something occurred to her when she saw the countertop out of the corner of her eyes and she stopped in her acts.

What was it that Jiang MingYuan had has her a couple of days ago? Who did she take cooking lessons from?

Oh darn!!!

Two words popped into Cheng Huan’s mind. When almost all of her family history was made available on the internet, how was it possible that Jiang MingYuan had not noticed that what she said was problematic.

Then why didn’t he say anything if he knew that something was off. Cheng Huan was frantic. All sorts of speculations came to her. She thought perhaps that Jiang MingYuan didn’t care about what was said online. Or she thought that he was not serious about their relationship and therefore did not really care what she was like.

She didn’t look well and the employees in the kitchen noticed that as well.

“Boss, are you not feeling well?”

The question brought her back to reality. Cheng Huan blinked a couple of times, shook her head, and reassured them that she was alright. She needed an answer desperately and was not able to concentrate on anything else. She put down the chopsticks and said to the chef next to her, “There’s something that I need to tend to at home. I am taking off now.”

“Don’t you want to give this a try first, Boss?” The chef was still waiting for her feedback. They were taken aback when the boss had suddenly changed her mind.

“No, it’s fine. You can make that call.”

***

Cheng Huan got home much earlier than expected because of the unexpected incident. It was not even 4 PM when she arrived home.

Jiang MingYuan was still at the office and XingXing had gone with him. The not-to-small apartment seemed particularly quiet. Cheng Huan did not reach out to the man. Sitting on the carpet, she put her hand together and placed the over her forehead. All sorts of ideas rushed through her mind.

Time passed by slowly and the living room became darker and darker. Finally, there was a light noise coming from outside of the door. The door was then opened and familiar footsteps ensued.

***

Jiang MingYuan was baffled by the darkness in the room. Having XingXing in his arms, he finally felt relieved when he walked inside and saw the person sitting there in front of the couch.

He put XingXing down and turned the light on. The chandelier in the living room came on and was almost blindingly bright.

The person sitting in front of the couch did not stir.

“What’s the matter?” Jiang MingYuan walked over and squatted down in front of her. “Are you not feeling well?”
