Chapter 79 -  Because We Are Friends

“BaiBai, do you still not get how the entertainment circle works? Are you really alright with someone taking away what was yours?”

Shu Bai gave a soft “oh” and asked, “Why are you telling me this?”

Tong JiaShu blinked and said, “Because we are friends.”

Shu Bai wasn’t sure what to make of that. Back in college, Tong JiaShu was in the class next to hers. For some odd reasons, she had been chatting her up since their freshman year in college and befriended her even though she didn’t have a very well-liked personality and very few people would talk to her.

Inside of Shu Bai’s mind, she didn’t really want to view Tong JiaShu as a friend. Tong JiaShu has very questionable moral values. She would do whatever within her means for an opportunity, including seducing an instructor…

Shu Bai was still dazed when Tong JiaShu reached out and drummed her fingers on her forehead. “Go talk to Lu JingYan. What are you waiting for?”

Shu Bai didn’t respond. Naturally, she wasn’t the one who had intimacy with Lu JingYan. What Tong JiaShu saw was just a misunderstanding. What surprised her was that Lu JingYan couldn’t remember clearly that it was Chi Ying and that Chi Ying denied the incident. Shu Yan recalled the day of the audition and how Chi Ying wanted to avoid Li Jinyuan.

This incident offered her an opportunity that she never even dared dreamed about before. Lu JingYan was born into a prestigious family and his image in public had always been that of cold and restrained. It’d only make sense that he wanted to own up his mistake of having a one-night stand.

Liu Pei had cooled down and hasn’t reached out to her in days. It was as though she was living up to what she had said the other day, “If you keep failing, I am not going to keep wasting my time and energy on you.”

Qi HongCheng was more or less an outcast now and definitely would not be able to offer her any assistance. She could barely make ends meet right now. When push really came to shove, that would be her last resort.

As much as that’s what she has in mind but, by now, Shu Bai no longer believed that there’s anyone in the world who’d be nice to her unconditionally. Liu Pei fought for her for Liu Pei’s own gain. She has no problem pushing Shu Bai to the edge of a cliff if necessary. Shu Bai hasn’t forgotten about that yet. Naturally, she couldn’t really trust everything coming from Tong JiaShu. So, she could just keep it in mind, and that’s all it was going to be. Shu Bai comforted herself.

“Let me give it some more thought,” said Shu Bai with a sigh.

Tong JiaShu frowned slightly but she had a pretty good idea about Shu Bai’s intimidated personality. “Alright, up to you. I am just offering you my suggestion and hope that you wouldn’t just let people walk all over you.”

She became friends with Shu Bai because she felt that a simple girl like Shu Bai would make a good friend. Tong JiaShu didn’t expect Shu Bai to see eye to eye with her in terms of their moral values; truth was, theirs were the exact opposite of each other. That was not important to Tong JiaShu. Nobody said that friends must see eye to eye in their moral values. What she didn’t realize was how severe Shu Bai’s inferiority complex was. So much that even when Tong JiaShu has given Shu Bai her most genuine self, there was still a wall between them that she was unable to strike down.

The wall surrounding Shu Bai’s heart was tall and Tong JiaShu had a difficult time getting inside of it. She wasn’t able to broach many subjects with her. Tong JiaShu was aware of that but there wasn’t much that she could do. She could only comfort herself by telling herself that it was only normal for those in the entertainment circle to be lonely and have no friends.

Shu Bai pursed her lips and said to her, “Thank you.”
