Chapter 106 -  He could be a softie and she could be stone cold (3)

Chi Cheng curled his little body inside of the blanket with just his little head poking out from underneath. Weather like this scared him. His soft, child-like voice trembling a little as he said, “Grandma, why isn’t Mommy back yet?”

Jing Zheng looked out of the window with a solemn look. The wind was wild, the rain downpouring, with thunders mixed in from time to time. There were no signs of them letting up anytime soon. Frowning a little, she said, “The weather was bad and Mommy’s flight was delayed.”

Chi Cheng’s limpid eyes were filled with ignorance and innocence. His little brows furrowed as he asked, “What is flight dee-lay?”

Jing Zheng, reminded that Chi Cheng was still just a child, her voice softened as she tried to simplify her words. “It is raining very hard outside and it is difficult for mommy’s plane to take off.”

Chi Cheng nodded seriously after recalling how little birds tended to have a difficult time fluttering their wings in a rainy day and would bump around inside their nests or under the roof and would only take off again when it’s sunny out.

“Okay. I get it now.”

A few seconds later, Chi Cheng frowned again, “But Mommy didn’t call me either.”

Jing Zheng went silent. She had dialed Chi Ying multiple times today but each time she had received a mechanical female voice telling her that the phone was “turned off”. She had assumed that Chi Ying was stuck in the airport and, between her remote location and the nasty weather, she wasn’t able to receive a signal.

Seeing how nervous Chi Cheng was, Jing Zheng asked, “If ChengCheng is worried, I can have uncle go check on mommy.”

Chi Cheng shook his head stubbornly. “No.”

Jing Zheng was baffled, “Why not?”

“If Mommy’s plane can’t take off, neither would Uncle’s,” said Chi Cheng as he blinked his pretty, black eyes. “I am sure Mommy would be hiding somewhere safe. If Grandma have Uncle go into the rain, Uncle would be scared.”

Jing Zheng was surprised at the little kiddo’s own way of caring about the others. His thinking might be even more thorough than hers. Chi Ying was probably somewhere indoor resting right now. It’d be more dangerous for Chi Yu to go look for her. Feeling reassured, Jing Zheng said, “ChengCheng is such a nice child…”

Chi Cheng, on the other hand, sudden covered his head up with the blanket and said in a dull voice, “I don’t think Uncle likes me a lot.”

When the first beam of light shone through the clouds and into the cabin of the helicopter, Chi Ying opened up her eyes comfortably.

She had slept very soundly. The sound-proofing effect of the windows was great and the temperature inside the cabin perfect. She slept all the way until she had woken up naturally.

When she sat up, though, she noticed that the suit jacket that she had placed over Lu JingYan the night before was now on top of herself.

Chi Ying was annoyed at herself. Since when had she became such a careless person?

There was a patient next to her and yet she had fallen asleep so soundly and for such a long time.

Chi Ying reached out to check on Lu JingYan’s temperature. He was still hot to the touch. Lying there quietly, his left hand over his chest, his face pale, he looked like a listless ragdoll.

The weather had cleared out and the sky was blue as it could be. The picturesque scenery around them had returned. Chi Ying was in no mood to appreciate all of those. She immediately gave Jiang Chong a call.

“Executive Assistant Jiang, have you contacted Boss Lu’s private physician yet?”

“Huh? What?” Jiang Chong’s groggy voice came over the other end of the phone.

“You said you’d have the private doctor come over this morning…”

Jiang Chong’s mind cleared immediately when he heard that and he quickly jumped out from under the blanket. His tone had become serious as the same time. “Miss Cheng, you mean Boss Lu really was ill?”

Chi Ying thought Jiang Chong’s groggy response was just because he was still asleep when she called, she hadn’t expected that he didn’t even take what she said the night before seriously.

When Chi Ying spoke again, she was already beginning to sound somewhat annoyed. “Did you think I was just kidding last night? Boss Lu was drenched in the rain yesterday and had been running a fever.”

Jiang Chong’s chest tightened. “I apologize, Miss Cheng. I will go and arrange for the doctor right now. Please hang in there with Boss Lu for a little while longer…”
