The second that they had said that, everyone in the kitchen gasped.

In particular, Xiao Tian’s knees buckled and he collapsed onto the floor right then and there.

The Political Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, in short, was the anti-spy department. It was no wonder that everyone in the kitchen turned pale when they heard that.

Tong Xuelu plated the bamboo shoots with pork stir fry into a plate and said, “Sure, I’ll go with you.”

She didn’t even say anything to Chef Meng or the others before she took off with the group.

She had no idea why they came for her but she was under close scrutiny right now so it was best she didn’t say or do anything. She didn’t want anyone to become collateral damage.

The patrons in the dining room tried as best they could to peek inside the kitchen. They only wish they could see and hear better and learn about what was going on in the kitchen.

Everyone soon saw Tong Xuelu walking out of the kitchen flanked by the group of men in Chinese long tunic. The restaurant was dead silent.

Tong Xuelu didn’t even glance sideways and walked out of the restaurant nonchalantly.

As soon as they were far away enough, the restaurant exploded into noises.

“Oh my gosh, Manager Tong was taken away. Had she broken the law?”

“Most likely. I knew there was no way a girl her age could become a manager of a Tier 1 restaurant. There must be a lot going on behind the scene!”

“What do you mean by that? Do you have any insider scoop?”

“Well, I can’t really say……”

“You can’t really say my @$$!” Chef Meng had already walked out of the kitchen and stared at the man with his tiger-like eyes. “You listen to me carefully. If you dare to say anything that will tarnish Manager Tong’s name, you will have to deal with me!”

Guo Chunyu, too, came out and with one hand on her waist and another pointing at the man, shouted at him, “Just who do you think you are? Go ahead. Spill. What insider scoop of Manager Tong do you know about? You are not leaving here until you spilled!”

The man knew nothing.

He had just been envious and jealous that Tong Xuelu, as a woman, was able to become the manager of a Tier 1 restaurant. Now that she was down on luck, he thought he, too, could pile onto it.

He made it sound hazy purposefully and got everyone’s attention. It made him felt important. He never would have expected the workers of the restaurant would stand up for Tong Xuelu.

With Chef Meng staring at him and Guo Chunyu pointing and shouting, he folded immediately, stood up, and ran away even before he had gotten his food.

Seeing that the man was gone, Chef Meng looked at the rest of the patrons and said, “Manager Tong did not break the law. She was asked to help in an investigation. If any of you spread any untruthful words about today, beware that the cops might come looking for you!”

With that said, the patrons’ curiosity were almost all gone and all there was left was worry.

They worried that they would somehow got dragged into it. As such, they all stopped talking about the incident.

After the last patron was gone, Chef Meng looked at the others and said, “I trust that you all have a good idea how Manager Tong treated us normally. For the sake of Manager Tong and yourself, I would advise against talking about this incident today. Not even with your family!”

Guo Chunyu patted her chest and said, “Don’t you worry, Chef Meng. I promise I would breath a word outside of this door!”

Meng Qingqing and the others quickly followed suit.

The way that Tong Xuelu had treated everyone fairly and had given them bonuses were really paying off now.

In the eyes of the others, Tong Xuelu was young, but she was also a very competent and easy-going manager. They had never felt mistreated since they had started working there nor was there any workplace politics.

All in all, they did not wish anything bad to happen to Tong Xuelu. Life may not be as good as it was right now with a new manager.

Chef Meng nodded and said, “I hope you will keep your words. Anyone who failed to keep their promises you better made sure that I never find out. We will have scores to settle if I ever find out!”

Everyone reaffirmed their resolutions again!
