“So far so good. Makes a living. Nothing compares to Third Brother. How have things been with you?” Shu Yan thought about it for a little while, then asked, “What’s going on with Ye Zhiqiang? Did he try to look for me?”

“That Ye Zhiqiang isn’t entirely useless. I stole one of his projects but he was able to keep the other one. But, even after he has completed that project, his profit will just cover what he owes to loan shark. Even though he is broke now, but a lot of his workers are still willing to work for him. He left for the northwest with his men and his woman a few days ago. I don’t think he will be back any time soon. Do you want to find out more about him? I can send someone to go look into him.”

“No, no need. I’m just asking.” Shu Yan recalled that Ye Zhiqiang has always been generous to those who worked for him, which would explain why so many would still follow him even now. 

“Speaking of, your folks came last month looking for you and went over to Ye Zhiqiang’s place. That’s when they found out about the divorce. They probably asked Ye Zhiqiang for money and started some conflict. Your little brother was beaten up by Ye Zhiqiang’s men. Then they came to me. I sent them away. One way or another, they are your parents. Do you want to contact them and let them know that you are safe?” said Shu Jianyang.

“I look at them as my parents but they don’t look at me as their daughter. Third Brother, they don’t care if I am alive or dead, they only want money from me. Preferably every penny that I have to give to their son. They just might sell me one more time and make another lump sum off of me. Don’t tell any one that I am in City Nan no matter what, especially my parents. Honestly, I don’t even know if I run all the way here from Ye Zhiqiang or from them,” said Shu Yan with a bitter smile. 

Shu Jianyang sighed. His second uncle and aunt valued boys over girls to the extreme. “Okay. I won’t let anyone know about your whereabout without your consent. Take care of yourself over there and call me if you need anything.”

“Thank you, Third Brother. I’ll let you go now. You have my number now. Keep in touch.”

“Yes, keep in touch.” After hanging up on the phone, Shu Jianyang smacked himself on his forehead. He had forgotten to tell Shu Yan that Ye Zhiqiang’s woman had a miscarriage. As well, nothing that important, Shu Yan probably wouldn’t want to hear about it anyway. 

After the phone call, Shu Yan couldn't help but recalled the original owner’s parents. They would wring their daughter dry and get the last penny for their son. Shu Yan would not let them know of her whereabout. She would not be brainlessly familiar like original owner. She would only do what was reasonably her responsibility. 

Yingying, who was arranging the merchandize outside, overheard Shu Yan’s conversation. She stopped what she was doing and just stared in the air, her eyes unfocused. 

“Yingying, Yingying…”

“Oh!” Yingying came to all of a sudden. “What’s up, Boss Lady?”

“I said to go take a break if you are tired,” said Shu Yan with a smile. 

Zhang Huaxiu went out to lunch with Chen Fei in the afternoon and it was just Shu Yan and Yingying at the shop right now. There were no different shifts in the afternoon so Shu Yan just have them staggered their breaks. 

“I’m not tired, I’m just…” Yingying mulled over it for a little bit, then said, “My mom has always said that my brother is the root of the family and needs to carry on the family line. When I get married, I will belong to a different family. That they have given birth to me and never mind about in the future, but I must help out my brother before I get married. I don’t disagree with her but then I also felt unjust. I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. My brother had recently started dating and my family wanted to help him buy his own place. My mom wanted me to chip in $10,000. I don’t have that much money. I… I really don’t know what to do anymore.”
