Chapter 85 -    “What was the money for? Reward for giving birth to the child? Or the money that he is paying her to take the child back?” (3)   

There were spider webs on the tree. When XingXing stuck his head over, he ended up a bunch of spider webs all over his face. The spider webs had been there for a long time and had already turned black with a few bugs that had been long dead. They smeared all over XingXing’s face.

With the spider webs on his face, XingXing felt ticklish and was about to touch his face with his hand. Cheng Huan worried that he’d get the bugs into his mouth and quickly reached out to stop him and clean them off of him herself. 

After all of the spider webs had been lifted off, he had turned back from a dirty little boy into a handsome little boy. The handsome little boy looked up and smiled at her, looking very silly. 

Cheng Huan smiled too and reached out to pinch him on his cheek. She had only pinched him once before she was stunned. She suddenly recalled the stunningly charming face of the man. 

Her eyes widened and she finally realized why that man seemed so familiar. It was because she had seen him before, but that the one that she has been spending her days and nights with look just liked him!

She did not feel relieved after figuring out what she had been trying to figure out. In fact, her heart felt even heavier now. She recalled a part of the novel that she had long forgotten: the female supporting character brought her son to the male lead’s house to reunite him with his father. Everybody who saw Jiang XingChen would agree that he looked exactly like the male lead. Mother Jiang, after seeing his look and the birthmark on his back was certain that XingXing was her grandson before they even had a DNA test. 

Everybody in the novel said the father and son duo looked exactly alike, and the man that she had just saw….

Cheng Huan refused to believe it. That was not how she remembered the story! The male lead wasn’t supposed to know about his son at this point in time!!

Cheng Huan was so deep in her own thought that she didn’t even hear XingXing calling out to her. The little kiddo saw his mother squatting there with her hand reached out. He was just about to docilely offer up his cheek but he waited for a long time and his mother still didn’t move. He felt dubious. 

“Mom, Mom?” He called out to her a couple of times. When Cheng Huan did not respond to him, he waved his hand in front of her a couple times. When she still did respond, his eyes rolled around and he had a naughty idea. 

The little kiddo reached out his two soft and white paws and formed them into claws in front of Cheng Huan’s cheeks. He waited for a little bit and, when he was certain that his mother wasn’t reacting to them at all, quickly gave her a pinch on her cheek. 

He stopped after just a little pinch and quickly hid his hands behind his back with a guilty conscience. HE was even somewhat disappointed. It felt just alright. Why was it that his mother enjoyed pinching him so much then?

The feeling on her cheek finally brought Cheng Huan back. She refocused her look at XingXing, stroked him on his cheek and sighed. 

“What’s the matter, Mommy?” XingXing was already prepared to be lectured but his mother’s reaction was too expected that he was baffled and finally had to ask. 

“Oh, it’s nothing,” said Cheng Huan as she walked forward holding his hand in hers. She still had no idea what had went wrong. XingXing was only 4 years old right now. According to the timeline in the novel, the male and female leads haven’t even met each other yet.
