“Parent-child activities?” Jiang MingYuan was not familiar with that. “What do you there?”
“We will play games together. Our teacher said to invite both our mom and dad.” XingXing sat on the couch while he explained the parent-child activities to his daddy. He looked very excited. So much that he couldn’t even sit still but shoving his little butt left and right.
Jiang MingYuan had his phone on his desk and XingXing on speaker. He stared at the stack of documents in front of him. After taking a few days off, now there’s a pile of documents for him to review and sign off. He’d have to work overtime the next few days. As he quickly put his signature on one of them, he responded back to XingXing, “When is it?”
“Next Tuesday.”
Still a week from now. If he started working very hard right now, he should be able to free up one day. Jiang MingYuan thought to himself and agreed to his child’s request.
The little kid on the other side of the phone was especially excited and started professing his love for his father over the phone. Even from the listening end, they were way too mushy. Sure enough, after a little while, there was a disgusted voice mixed into his professing of his love.
Jiang MingYuan smiled to himself. Hearing the voice from those two seemed to have lightened his weariness. Pushing away the documents in front of him, he leaned against the back of the chair and relaxed his body. He turned off speaker, picked up the phone, and placed it against his ear. He waited until XingXing was done with professing of his love before he asked, “Where’s your mom?”
“Mommy’s cooking. There will be shrimp.” After their trip, XingXing had fallen in love with shrimp and wanted it every meal. Now that he was satisfied, he did not forget his daddy. “What are you having, Daddy?”
“Daddy hasn’t eaten yet and he doesn’t know what he should get.” He had been so busy all day long that he barely had time to take a sip of water. He only had two bites for lunch and he was so hungry right now that he barely has any feelings left in his stomach.
“Then Daddy should have shrimp too.” XingXing has always assumed that everybody else would naturally enjoy what he enjoyed so he did not hesitate to make that suggestion.
“Okay, Daddy will have shrimp too.”

After ending the call with his son, Jiang MingYuan still has a slight smile on his face. Picking up his phone and dialing and internal number, he said, “Get me some dinner. Something with shrimp.”
“Okay.” This was the first time his boss actually specified what he wanted. Qi Shan’s pause was almost unnoticeable. Owing to his responsibilities as an assistant, he asked again, “Anything else?”
“Just pick whatever.”
Still that boss that he was familiar with. Qi Shan let out a sigh of relief. Right when he was about to put the phone down, his boss spoke again. “Free up the 9thfor me. I need to be somewhere.”
“Okay. Got it.” Qi Shan nodded. He had already gotten used to his workaholic boss taking a day off from time to time now.
He didn’t plan to ask any question but the man from the other end of the phone added, “Do you know what I need to prepare for parent-child activities?”
Qi Shan, “…… No” He’s a single man! How would he possibly know things like that?

January 9th, Tuesday.
Li KangYi felt that something was off the minute he stepped into the office. It took him two hours to realize that he hadn’t see his boss all morning long.
He asked dubiously, “Is the boss out?”
“The boss didn’t come in today,” said a coworker next to him. “He has something personal going on, I think.”
His boss who wished he could live in the office had taken a day off? There was definitely something going on there. The workers, who were all slacking because the boss was out, starting speculating what the boss had to take care of today. There were gossips all over the place. There were two exceptions among them. One of them was Qi Shan and the other one, Li KangYi.
