Chapter 170 - "He might be my grandson. I will need to have a test done." (1)

“Move to a different place? But why?” Cheng Huan was baffled. She felt that there was nothing wrong with their current place.

Jiang MingYuan wanted to say something but, taking a look at the chauffeur at the driver seat, he stopped himself. “Never mind, we will talk about it later.”

Inside the cabin of a car was, indeed, not the best place to have this discussion. Cheng Huan nodded and didn’t ask anything else. But she was curious like a cat and wanted to find out his answer to that.

Once they have gotten home, Cheng Huan sent XingXing to play in the study, made two cups of tea, handed one to Jiang MingYuan, and asked, “Can you tell me now?”

“Well,” Jiang MingYuan had already thought it though in the last few days. “XingXing is getting older and it may confuse and negatively impact him with his parents living apart from each other. As such, I’d like to invite you to move below me.”

“Below?”

“Right.” What he really wanted was for the two of them to move in with him but he couldn’t ask for that just yet. Baby steps. He carried on saying, “The renter under my unit’s contract was up and had moved away. If you are willing, you can move in tomorrow.

“It isn’t too far away from here so it won’t affect you too much.”

Cheng Huan fell silent.

She understood what Jiang MingYuan was saying. It was difficult for a little kid to understand the situation between them and, as such, they’d say what was on their mind. When others hear their words, it’d inevitably draw unnecessary attention. Lao Liu’s family that they have met on the plane was a perfect example of that.

Well, understanding it was one thing, her feeling was another. Now that Cheng Huan had sensed that she has impure thought about him, it was no big deal when she wasn’t seeing him every day. If she was to move into the same building as him and seeing him day in and day out, she had no idea how things would go. Deep down inside, she was afraid of the unknown.

Cheng Huan hasn’t expressed anything and Jiang MingYuan didn’t rush her either. He took a sip of the tea and waited for a while longer. What he finally got, instead of Cheng Huan’s response, was a call from Gu MingLi.

Jiang MingYuan frowned when his phone rang. He was sort of a public figure as well and was sensitive to lens. He recalled feeling like his pictures being taken outside of the kindergarten and he couldn’t help but wonder when he received the call from Gu MingLi at this curious time.

He didn’t feel that he has anything to hide but just felt annoyed. Sighing to himself, he stood up and said, “I have to take this.”

“Yeah, okay.” His standing there was making it difficult for Cheng Huan to process anyway. She even felt a slight bit of relief when she heard the phone call and felt a heavy weight being lifted. She quickly waved her hand signifying to him that she didn’t mind.

Jiang MingYuan walked over to the patio with his phone. Once the glass door to the patio was closed, all one could see was him but couldn’t hear what he was saying.

He picked up the call. “Mom.”

“Mingyuan, are you still at work?” The voice coming from the other end of the call was tender as usual, as though it was just the call from a caring mother.

“No, I am out taking care of something.”

“Oh yeah? Great then. It’s been a while since you have been home. I’ll be cooking tonight. Why don’t you come home for dinner?”

“I am tied up tonight…”

“What is it? Just come after you have it taken care of. I’ll wait for you.”

She was not kidding when she said that. If he didn’t go back, she could wait all night long. As much as the two of them were not close with each other, he couldn’t have her do that. So he gave in. “Alright, I’ll be there in a little while.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you then.” Gu MingLi seemed very happy that she had made her son bent to her wish. Her voice was so soft that it sounded like water. That had only irritated the man on the receiving end more.
