Translator: Fringe Capybara
Chapter 171 - "He might be my grandson. I will need to have a test done." (2)

Jiang MingYuan hung up the phone and stood there the same way he did for a long, long time before he calmed down, put his cellphone into his pocket, and walked back inside.

“I have something to take care off so I am going to take off now.”

“This early? You don’t want to have dinner here?” Cheng Huan was a bit surprised after she recollected herself from their earlier conversation.

“No, I won’t be staying for dinner. I’ll go tell XingXing myself,” said Jiang MingYuan with an apologetic look and he turned and headed over to the study.

XingXing was creating his masterpieces in the study. It’s been a few months and, even though his drawing didn’t improve by a whole lot, his characters had become richer – mainly with his father being one of the regulars now.

Jiang MingYuan knocked and walked inside. He squatted next to him for a while and did not comment on the daddy with red hair in his drawing. He even praised him untruthfully when the little kiddo asked how his drawing was.

After he has praised XingXing and when XingXing was happy, Jiang MingYuan told him that he had to go.

“Daddy’s not staying for dinner?” The mother and son asked the same question.

“Daddy will eat when he gets home.”

“But then you won’t have Mommy’s cooking.” In the little kiddo’s mind, his mother’s cooking was the best and nobody else’s measured up to it. He gave his father a sympathetic look. His eyes rolled and he patted his own chest and made his Daddy a promise. “Don’t worry, Daddy. I’ll eat more for you!”

Jiang MingYuan, “…………… Should I be thanking you for that?”

He bent over and reached out his hand to rub XingXing’s little belly. “Let Daddy see how much food can you hold in that little tummy of yours.”

XingXing was ticklish. He started giggling before Jiang MingYuan’s hand reached over. Twisting his body left and right to avoid his hand, he was still bragging verbally. “I can eat lots and lots!”

Jiang MingYuan cheered up a little after he had messed around with his son for a little bit. He picked up XingXing and placed him on the chair. Then he picked up the crayons that had been knocked onto the ground and handed them to him. “Bye, baby. Daddy is taking off now.”

“Bye, Daddy.” XingXing waved his hand heartlessly. Then asked again when Jiang MingYuan had walked outside of the door. “Are you coming again tomorrow, Daddy?”

“No, not tomorrow.” Now that he had taken a day off, he had more work piled up waiting for him. He just turned down his request even if it was against his own wish.

“Okay. You go keep yourself busy, Daddy.” XingXing had his head lowered and Jiang MingYuan couldn’t see the expression on him. He pulled out a black crayon and colored his Daddy’s face black.

It had started to rain but it was brightly lit outside of the mansion. A servant was already waiting outside. The moment Jiang MingYuan opened up the car door, there was already an umbrella over his head.

Jiang MingYuan took the umbrella and thanked the person. When he looked up, he immediately spotted someone waiting for him outside of the main building. He hastened up his steps and walked over. With a disapproving tone, he said, “It’s cold outside, Mom. You didn’t need to wait for me out here.”

“I haven’t seen you in forever. Is it wrong that I want to see you sooner?” Gu MingLi smiled slightly as she walked out and took his hand. “Let me see. Did you lose more weight? Aye, you. I have always been telling you to not work so much. You need to take good care of yourself even if you are single.”

Jiang MingYuan didn’t say anything and let his mother took him into the mansion.

As soon as they have gotten inside, Gu MingLi let go of his hand and pushed him down onto the couch. “You are back so soon that I haven’t quite finished cooking yet. You wait here.”

“It’s alright.” His mother was never one to go inside the kitchen. He recalled the very last time that she had cooked was shortly after his father had passed away. She made a few dishes and told him that he was be happy with what he has and not to compete with his uncles and other elders.

Because of that, Jiang MingYuan had no expectation for the “taste of mother”. Frowning slightly, he said coldly, “We have a chef at home. You didn’t need to cook.”

“How’s that the same?” said Gu MingLi gently and returned to the kitchen before he could say anything else.
