Chapter 172 - "He might be my grandson. I will need to have a test done." (3)

“Cooking” to Gu MingLi was very similar to that of a housewife of a prominent family from ancient times. The ingredients would have already been prepared by someone else and all she needed to do was to turn the stove on and cook them. Even the seasoning was prepared for her ahead of time. Much like a chef, except her food wasn’t as tasty.

She had already finished a few dishes before Jiang MingYuan had arrived. The remaining ones would take too much time either.

“MingyYuan, dinner is ready.” Gu MingLi came looking for him when the domestic helps were bringing the dishes out. She still had her apron on and her hair loosely tied. She looked even more tender under the warm, yellow light. She looked very much like a loving mother.

Jiang MingYuan was not touched by what he was seeing in front of him. He acknowledged her nonchalantly and cleared his browser history before he stood up and walked over to the dining room.

“Try this. Fish in vinegar sauce. Your favorite from when you were a child.” He had just sat down when Gu MingLi placed a chopstick full of food in his bowl. Putting down the communal pair of chopsticks, Gu MingLi said to him, “Why don’t you move back here from that dinky apartment of yours? It has to be more comfortable at home.”

“Living outside is more convenient.” Jiang MingYuan turned down her suggestion. He ate the rice around the fish.

Dinner was fairly unpleasant. In order to show how loving she was, Gu MingLi kept on putting more food in his bowl. The food had turned into a small pile in his bowl but Jiang MingYuan was still eating around them. Finally Gu MingLi asked with tears in her eyes whether he was still mad at her which gave Jiang MingYuan a headache. He almost got indigestion from the meal.

After dinner, the servant went to clean up the dinner table. Jiang MingYuan stood around to help with the digestion and Gu MingLi continued to ask about his wellbeing next to him. Something about him not dressing warm enough and to be careful not to catch a cold.

She went on with her monologue for a while before she finally turned to the real subject of the night.

“MingYuan, you have a girlfriend now?”

Jiang MingYuan, “…. No.” He was just about to start pursuing her.

“I know you don’t like it when I meddle so I will stop rushing you. If there’s a girl that you like, just bring her home so I can meet her.”

She smiled and said, “You know your mom. I have been wanting to have a grandchild for a while now.”

Jiang MingYuan, with a glass of water in hand, had been a quiet audience. He just looked up at her when he heard her words.

“What’s with that look? Do you have a child already?” Gu MingLi smiled with one hand over her mouth. “If you do, I must tell your father in heaven immediately. He would be very happy to know that.”

Jiang MingYuan moved the corners of his mouth a little and turned his head back to stare at the glass of water in front of him.

Looking at his attitude, Gu MingLi gritted her teeth. She knew that she and her son weren’t close but she still needed to meddle with certain issues. “If you really have a child, we should bring him back. We don’t want him to turn bad staying outside with others.”

She sighed and, as though giving him an advice, “And, you need to watch out for yourself. There are lots of bad women out there. You can have fun with them but you can’t marry them. My daughter-in-law must be someone who can measure up to our standard. You won’t want a wife whom you can’t even bring to banquets with you. Someone like that would only bring about embarrassment for you.”

By now Jiang MingYuan was pretty certain that she was aware of the existence of Cheng Huan and XingXing. He was not interested in staying to listen to her ludicrous theories. Putting down his glass, he stood up and said, “I have other matters to tend to. I am going to take off now.”

“You are always so busy. Oh, nevermind. I know that you can’t stay here for very long.” Gu MingLi sighed and waved, letting him take off.

As soon as the door was closed, her face dropped immediately. She reached for her cellphone and dialed someone. “I need you to look into someone for me. I want the result in a week.”

“Who are they?”

“A shameless tramp.” Her look was vicious. Then, putting on a different look, she said, “Another one might be my grandson. I need you to get hold of his blood so I can run a test.”
