“Let mommy take a look at where it’s hurting?” Cheng Huan didn’t really feel that anything was out of the ordinary after she had turned away. She grabbed XingXing’s hand and checked out his fingers. All his fingers looked fine and she couldn’t tell anything was wrong.
XingXing, on the other hand, stopped caring about his own fingers. He looked at her with his big eyes and, after a little while, turned to look at Jiang MingYuan, then back at Cheng Huan.
“What’s the matter?” Cheng Huan couldn’t read the look on him.
The little kiddo hesitated for a little bit and suddenly stood on his tiptoes and said into her ear in a not-so-low voice, “Mommy, were you kissing Daddy earlier?”
In this day and age, there were many channels for obtaining information so even a little kid below the age of five knew that kissing was the way that adults showed their fondness toward each other.
His words stunned Cheng Huan.
The match scene that had just happened were replayed automatically in her head. The quick contact that she had ignored earlier turned more suggestive as it was replayed over and over again in her mind.
Her ears began to heat up and, with her tongue touching her upper palette, even her breathing became lighter. The kitchen seemed particularly quiet and the only sound left was XingXing asking curiously whether it was a kiss.
Cheng Huan gritted her teeth and had no idea how to respond to that. She felt very awkward but also wanted to find out the reaction of the other person in question. Masking her intention as checking out XingXing’s hand, she turned a little and glanced over at the man.
And she saw a man who seemingly looked calm but his eyes were unfocused and his ears slightly red.
Once she had confirmed that the other person didn’t flare much better than her, she felt oddly justified. She cleared her throat, turned back to face her nosy-looking son, and changed the subject. “Does your hand still hurt?”
With her asking that, XingXing’s attention was, indeed, been diverted. He put on a sad look and said, “Yes.”
“Probably from peeling the garlic. Just soak it in warm milk in a little while and you will be fine.” Cheng Huan was very proud of her self for distracting her son. She pinched his chubby cheek a little and got up to fetch the milk.
She had taken care of her son but she couldn’t quite face her son’s father just yet. Lowering her eyes, she walked forward while looking at the tip of her slippers. She thought she had walked around him as much as possible but he still grabbed her when she walked passed him.
“Let me.” He had already recovered. He walked over quickly to the refrigerator and took out the carton of milk after he finished saying that.
The milk was poured in a pot and being heated up. The man focused squarely at the pot. His back straight and his broad back seemed very quiet. Nevertheless, his present was still strong enough that he could not be overlooked.
With his reaction, Cheng Huan started to calm down as well. She still felt a bit awkward but she was able to keep her emotions in check and continue to prepare for dinner.
The gingers were sliced, the green onion chopped. The garlic that was just peeled were rinsed and mixed with dried red peppers and millet peppers.
Oil was added to a wok and the seasoning that was prepared earlier was used to stir fry with the chopped out preserved cabbage. Stock was added and the pot covered.
It didn’t take long to heat up the milk and it was ready when Cheng Huan was adding the oil into the wok. Jiang MingYuan poured it into a large bowl and had XingXing put his hand inside of it.
XingXing had been drinking milk everyday but it was the first time he soaked his hand inside of it. He wouldn’t stay still when he was soaking his hand. His fingers moved around the bowl as though he was paddling in it.
