He let go fo Cheng Huan’s hand and switched to interlacing their fingers together. Hugging her from behind, he asked gently into her ear, “Keep on buying clothes for me in the future?’

“Give me some time to think about it.” Cheng Huan’s eyes stirred. She leaned backward slightly and her back met the chest of the man behind her. Through the fabric of their clothes, she seemed to be able to feel the warmth coming from the man.

“How much time do you need?” Jiang MingYuan acknowledged her then, he picked up a strand of her hair, sniffed it, and asked, “Is one minute long enough?”

“Oh, stop with that already. Who can contemplate something in just a minute?” Cheng Huan turned her head and glanced at him then. Pulling her hair back from his hand, she said, “And stop with all the touchy feely.”

The man disagreed with her. “You are mine.”

Cheng Huan’s face reddened. “Well, you should still be conscientious of the surrounding.”

Jiang MingYuan followed her gesture and looked over at XingXing who was playing with his new toy not far from them. He lowered his hand that was half way out. Sitting up, he picked up Cheng Huan and placed her on his lap. He then asked her a different question, “When will you be moving upstairs to my place?”

Cheng Huan, “…. This is kinda fast, no?”

“Not that fast. I have been waiting for a while already.”

“……”

“Hmm? When?” The man asked again. He then proceeded to answer his own question. “How about after the new year. After we come back from our trip, you can move into my room. What do you say?”

“I personally don’t believe in sharing a room before we get married…”

“We can go get married right now.”

“Civil Affairs Bureau is closed now.”

“We can go tomorrow.” The man lowered his head and sniffed around her neck like a puppy. “What do you say?”

“Jiang MingYuan, why are you like this?” Cheng Huan pulled his hand on her waist away with her ears reddened. She stood up, turned and glared at him. “You weren’t like this before.”

“Do you not like me like this?”

Cheng Huan, “……”

She remained silent for a little while but still couldn’t get herself to say that she didn’t like it. She struggled with it for a bit and finally, giving him a glare, and went to make dinner. “We are not going to rush to get married. I need an observation period, okay?”

“Okay.” Jiang MingYuan got up and followed behind her. “You can observe all you want. Just don’t take too long.”

Cheng Huan opened up the refrigerator and asked casually. “Why’s that? Is your true self going to be exposed if I take too long?”

“Mmhmm,” said the man behind her. He paused for a bit, then said, “I don’t think I can hold off much longer.”

Cheng Huan grabbed over two tomatoes and paused a little when she heard what he had said. By the time she realized what he meant by that, she couldn't help but threw the tomatoes at him. “What are you talking about?”

They were standing so close together that it didn’t hurt. Catching the tomatoes, Jiang MingYuan walked over to rinse them in the sink. When he was done with that, he asked, “How am I cutting these up?”

Cheng Huan was stupefied by his sudden change of subject and only after a little while before she was able to tell him, “Cut them into ¼” cubes.”

“Okay.” The tomato was placed in the middle of the cutting board. The long and slender fingers holding down on it and, with the fall of the blade, the round tomato was sliced into two halves right down the middle.

Looking at him work, the kitchen returned to its original silence.

Jiang MingYuan wasn’t skillful at cutting but he was focused. After he was done with the first one, he placed the tomato dice into a bowl and moved onto the next one.

Cheng Huan waited until she was certain that he was okay before she went over the refrigerator to pull something else out. Opening up the refrigerator door, she found half a chicken that had already been prepared. As soon as she touched the bag, she heard the man speaking from behind her, “I have a boring personality. I am not that loveable. My mother used to say that she had a difficult time reading me. She couldn’t tell what I like and what I don’t. And that made it difficult for others to get close to me.”

Cheng Huan stopped what she was doing and turned to look at him. She saw the man finishing up the tomato and placed it into the bowl as he carried on talking. “I felt that since we are in a relationship now, I shouldn’t be like how I always have been. I should be more pro-active, right?”

He turned around and gave Cheng Huan a slight smile. “If there’s anything that you don’t like, just let me know. I will be mindful of them.”

“There’s no need for that. I don’t not like it.” She was just surprised by his sudden changes was all. She would get used to them.

With her lips pressed together, she looked up at Jiang MingYuan. Turning back around, she pulled out the half chicken and asked, “How about chicken with chestnut for dinner?”

“Okay.”

“Then help me with the chestnuts.”

“Okay.”
