Big Grandpa was up there in age and his eyes were not very good. He squinted at Cheng Huan and XingXing for quite a while after Jiang MingYuan’s introduction before he finally chuckled and said “good” a few times.

“I am glad you have found yourself a partner. I feel much relieved then.” This reminded the old man at the nephew that he had raised. He sighed and said, “Too bad your father left before he saw you having your own family.”

Jiang MingYuan stopped smiling and became silent.

“Oh, nevermind that. Let’s talk about something else.” The old man pulled out a handkerchief from his chest and wiped his nose. He had them took a seat and called XingXing over closer to him. He studied XingXing carefully and then smiled at Jiang MingYuan and said, “He looked just like you when you were a kid.”

XingXing nodded next to Big Grandpa. “Yes, I think so too.”

His words made the old man chuckle. Pointed at XingXing’s forehead, he said, “Look at you. Being so smart for your age.”

XingXing didn’t really understand what Big Grandpa was laughing about but he laughed with him nevertheless. When they were done laughing, he said, “Big Grandpa, I want to go play with the little birdie.”

As though he had not expected that from the child. He was taken aback a little first, then he busted out laughing again. He waved as he laughed. “Okay. You go play. Just be careful to not let Dongdong peck you.”

“Thank you, Big Grandpa,” said XingXing happily. He waved at his daddy and mommy as he dashed outward. After a little while, the adults inside the room could hear the parrots asking in its weird and loud voice, “Who are you?”

Cheng Huan and Jiang MingYuan stayed inside the room and chatted with the old man. Most of the time it was Jiang MingYuan and Big Grandpa talking with Cheng Huan listening to one side. Occasionally, their topics would touch upon had and mostly relationship-related question. Specifically, when the two of them would be getting married.

Cheng Huan could only smile under the old man’s anticipating look. She used the same answer that Jiang MingYuan had used earlier. “We are still talking over that.”

“Well, then, hurry up. I am not young anymore. Who knows how much more time I have. I would like to see your wedding before my time is up.”

“Please don’t say that.” Jiang MingYuan stopped him. “We are waiting to celebrate your 100th birthday still.”

The old man looked at his grandnephew, smiled and shook his head. He did not continue the subject of his longevity.

Someone knocked on the door and one of his caretakers asked where they would like to have their dinner.

“Let’s go to the dining room,” said the old man. He stood up and said to the other two, “Let’s go and have dinner. It’s not often that we are so lively over here.”

That was him complaining that the youngsters were not visiting him often enough. Jiang MingYuan didn’t say anything but walked over and supported the old man by holding onto his arm.

There were a lot of people over at the Big Grandpa’s place and the dining area was quite big as well. There were 7 to 8 tables placed in the dining area that was over 100 sq meters in space. The entire family sat according to their generations.

Everybody at Jiang MingYuan’s table were his cousins. The oldest one was in his fifties and he was the youngest one.

Gu MingLi would talk about Jiang MingYuan’s marriage every year she had returned in the past. Gu MingLi didn’t show up this year and their cousin, on the other hand, had returned with his girlfriend and a son. This change piqued everyone’s interest and they all looked at Cheng Huan intensely over dinner trying to figure out how she was able to land the man.

Their looks made Cheng Huan uncomfortable all over. Considered that it was her first time visiting, she did not put her chopsticks down and took off. She was forcing herself over there but Jiang MingYuan, on the other hand, put down his bowl and chopsticks, stood up with her, called XingXing over, walked over to the main table and said to Big Grandpa. “We are done each. We will be heading out.”

“That soon?” Big Grandpa had bad eyes and did not notice what was going on at the table. He thought that his grandnephew and his family had really finished eating. He was surprised but did not ask them to stay any longer. “Alright. I am sure you are tired after all day of travelling. You should head back.”
