Chapter 249 - She was woken up by the ringer on her phone. (1)

Cheng Huan wasn’t surprised what happened to Jiang MingYuan in Country I was mentioned in the news.

As the person in charge of a company whose market value was over a trillion yuan, Jiang MingYuan was quite well known domestically. His trip to Country I was not a secret and, along with a disaster that was receiving global concerns, it was only normal that he was brought up.

She did not read the news article in details. She could foresee that there was nothing much that she could contribute, not even when she was there in person. All she could do was wait quietly for a shred of hope.

Due to the disaster in Country I, the entire country had plunged into a sort of unrest. Rescue personnel and resources came pouring in from all over the world and would be redirected to other disaster zones.

The disaster areas have not yet had power or communication and rescue missions were challenging. Nevertheless, after the first day, many survivors and bodies had been recovered and the job of identifying bodies had begun.

Cheng Huan revisited the consulate and there were many more inside today. Judging from the way they walked, they all came from China to look for their loved ones.

The mood was sad and suffocating inside the consulate. Cheng Huan clutched her chest and walked over to the person responsible for registration with a straight face. She left them with her contact information and left quickly.

She didn’t know what to do after that. It was still early in time and a little chaotic on the streets. Cheng Huan walked down the street aimlessly with her hands in her pocket and her shoulder slouched.

She felt unsettled and conflicted. She wished to hear something back soon from the consulate but also, at the same time, worried that it would be bad news. And she spent her entire morning feeling tormented.

Luckily, her cellphone never rang.

Cheng Huan set an alarm. When her cellphone went off at 11:30, she turned the alarm off, looked up and around then, after picking one direction, walked in that direction.

XingXing was a smart boy. He noticed that something was wrong since the second day after their arrival. His mom had told him that they were there for fun but she had never brought him with her whether she went.

The little kiddo waited half a day at the hotel and dashed to Cheng Huan as soon as she walked inside. “Where’s Daddy?”

“Daddy is tied up by something. Let’s wait for him, hmm?”

“Okay.” The little kiddo expressed that he understood. Then, after a little while, mentioned that he would like to go out to play.

He felt very cooped up.

Cheng Huan hesitated a little but finally turned him down. “No, we can’t go out just yet.”

Disasters have certain effects on public safety.

Even though the capital was not affected by the tsunami but many residents were worried after the disaster. In addition, there were relatives coming from all over the world looking for their loved ones, rescue personnel, and local refugees from other areas of the country. The makeup of this city was more complicated than ever.

She dared not risk bringing her child out with her.

“But I really want to go out!” XingXing hugged his mother’s leg. “Let me out, please, Mommy.”

Cheng Huan continued to shake her head.

The little kiddo thought about it for a little while. He thought that his mother refused to take him out because Daddy hasn’t come yet. He had an idea and started negotiating with her, “We can tell Daddy where we will be going. Then he can come and meet us there.”

Cheng Huan stroked him on his head and bit her lip as she looked at the fawning look on the child.

She wanted to cry again. She seemed to have become very fragile and was spiraling down the path of self-pity.

“Why not?”

“Because the playground is not done yet.”

“Is it one of those big buildings?” XingXing gestured with his arms. “The ones with superman and monsters inside.”

“Yes, that’s exactly it.” Cheng Huan didn’t actually hear what her son was saying. She had been awake for too long and her ears were ringing.

After her dizziness had subsided some, Cheng Huan pulled out the lunch that she had brought back with her with a smile.
