Chapter 255 - "Are you not feeling well?" (1)

Jiang MingYuan had long since looked into Cheng Huan’s past when he learned about XingXing.

He would be lying if he said what he found out didn’t bother him at all.

He had no intentions toward Cheng Huan at the beginning and only saw her as a stranger. As such, he didn’t let those bother him for very long. Later on, he was too comfortable when they were together and started to fall for her. It was veryifficult for him to think of Cheng Huan as the person that he had read about in the reports.

As he had plenty of time to prepare and came to accept these, Jiang MingYuan wasn’t particularly affected by what he had read online. He was more worried that they would make Cheng Huan unhappy.

***

Those working for Jiang MingYuan were very efficient. Everything about Cheng Huan, true or otherwise, that were being thrown around online disappeared completely and the public’s attention had been turned toward something else.

That was, naturally, not what the behind-the-scene person would like to see. Like fish that were gasping for breath out of water, they tried all different means to post damaging news about that woman.

Seeing the new posts, Jiang MingYuan frowned and felt that his employees’ performance has been going downhill. He opened up the application to look for his target and, before he could even type a word, another title attracted his attention.

In order to attract clicks, all of these titles were catchy, much like this one that had attracted Jiang MingYuan’s attention.

He clicked into it and stopped what he was doing. He narrowed his eyes and pondered for a little while, then suddenly asked the woman next to him, “How long had you been trained in gastronomy?”

Cheng Huan didn’t expect him to start talking to her out of the blue. She paused for a little before she said, “Almost 20 years, give or take. I have been learning from my [paternal] grandfather since I was a child.”

As soon as she had finished saying that, she realized she had slipped. The original owner grew up with her paternal grandparents. When was she able to learn how to cook from he paternal grandfather? Neither was her paternal grandfather a chef.

She was worried that the man would have picked up on that. She studied him stealthily for a little while and noticed that he didn’t react much to that and felt a little better.

Jiang MingYuan was curious, “You learned how to cook from your paternal grandfather?”

“Yeah, sort of.”

“I see.” Jiang MingYuan looked like he got it all of a sudden. Looking like normal, he went on, “Your cooking is so good. It makes me wonder how good grandpa’s cooking was.”

Cheng Huan noticed how he referred to her grandfather and that made her happy. Seeing how he didn’t seem suspicious, she started to brag. “His cooking was amazing, of course. Much better than mine. All of the nearby villages would ask him to cater for them from weddings to funerals!”

She had no idea how rattled Jiang MingYuan was deep down inside!

He may not have remembered all the details about her past, but he remembered the gist of it. From what he had read, he had spent very little time with her grandfather. There was no way she could have learned her gastronomy art from him.

Jiang MingYuan didn’t feel that Cheng Huan was lying. He trusted her plus her skills in the kitchen spoke for themselves.

If the problem didn’t lie with her, then it must be the reports! And if the reports were incorrect, that could only mean that there were spies around him! Jiang MingYuan immediately suspected his mother and his other uncles. Could they have told him wrong information purposefully just so that they could expose them when the time was right, just like they did right now?

He had no idea why they would do such a thing but the speculation really rattled Jiang MingYuan. He went through everybody in his mind and felt that each and every single one of them could be a suspect.

Once the seed had been sowed, it was growing like mad. Jiang MingYuan looked solemn, as those he was facing something dire. He skipped over those he found suspicious and had others look into them in details.

The list of suspects was long and the results were slow. It would take at least two weeks for the results to come back. Jiang MingYuan, however, was not in a rush. He didn’t pay it too much attention once he had given the order and refocused his energy on other issues.
