Cheng Huan never played before but she had an idea of the rules. After watching a couple of rounds from behind Jiang MingYuan, she had figured out that though the man looked very serious, he had no intention of winning at all. He just offered up what the others needed.

Which was why the longer she watched, the more boring it got. So she looked for an excuse to take off early.

She was baffled, though. Leaning into the man’s arms, she brought it up, “Why did you lose your money on purpose?”

“Convenience.” Jiang MingYuan had no intention of wasting this good time on anything else. He picked her up with both arms as long as he finished talking then, hesitated for a fraction of a second between the secondary and guest bedroom, picked the one on the right and walked inside of it.

The Jiang family started doing businesses back in the previous dynasty by now the family had grown a lot. Though not everyone in the family was successful. By now, Jiang MingYuan was the most successful one of all and many of the relatives want to mooch a little bit off of him. They would not otherwise

The two at the table had a electronic component company and a construction material company, respectively. Both of them did decently. Not great, but not bad either. These were exactly the kind who were always looking for better opportunities. They figured that if they were able to do business with Jiang MingYuan, the size of their businesses would increase by several folds.

“I won’t.” The little girl took the money from her dad and smiled so much that her two dimples could be seen. Holding XingXing by his hand, she said to him as they walked away, “What would you like? I can buy them for you.”

“I have money too.” XingXing, who had just gotten two red pockets felt like he was a parvenu riche. He patted his pocket and said generously to the cousin whom he had just met, “I will buy you a doll, Big Sister.”

“Thank you so much!”

And just like that, the two kids who had just met had ready developed a sort of friendship. They chatted as they walked out of the living room. After they had left, the other mahjong table had already been set up. The cousin brought Jiang MingYuan over and waved at Cheng Huan to join them.

After they had finished dishes and just when the two of them were walking out of the kitchen, the cousin came over again.

This time he came to invite the over to play mahjong.

In the modern worth, there were no shortage of materialistic goods. There were no longer novelty and satisfaction over the New Year time. Especially for the city-dwellers, they were not used to life in a small town where entertainments were very lacking. As such, one by one they have turned to mahjong, the “essence of the country”, to kill time.
