Chapter 396 - So that was what Lu Jue looked like had he not recovered. (3)

Overlord: [Host, the extra assignment is going to cost you 20,000 little suns.]

“I remember.” Ning Zhi handed over 20,000 little suns to Overlord. All of a sudden, there were only 300 little suns remaining in her little storage.

She hoped that Lu Jue would have all of his memories back by the time she woke up.

Ning Zhi found herself standing inside the Lu’s garden in the blink of an eye.

The afternoon sun was beating down and two servants were chatting while trimming the plants inside the garden.

“Second Young Master had a very bad episode yesterday. I heard that he was scratching his own face.”

“I was out yesterday. Did you see it?”

“Madam had Second Young Master tied up and forced clipped his nails so he couldn’t scratch himself again. Dr. Jin came over to treat Second Young Master for his wounds and was almost bitten by Second Young Master.”

“it seemed like Second Young Master’s condition had been worsening over the past year. Any normal family with a patient like that would have had them locked up by now. Who would have the energy to deal with that?”

“No way Madam would have the heart to have Second Young Master locked up. He’s not an animal. Did you not see that Madam’s eyes are all puffy from crying so much?”

“Aye, it’s all so awful. No wonder Second Young Madam had run off.”

Ning Zhi was stunned when she heard the conversation from behind the two servants.

Did they just say that she had run off?

And that Lu Jue’s condition had worsened?

The conversation continued. “Why are you even bringing her up? She came against her will and had never been nice to Second Young Master. Have you not seen the hatred in her eyes when she looked at Second Young Master?”

“I guess you are right……”

Ning Zhi frowned reflexively. She gathered from the conversation that was the part in the novel where Ning Zhi had run away and Lu Jue’s condition had worsened and finally took his own life.

This was Lu Jue’s future before her transmigration.

A future without her in it.

Ning Zhi stopped listening to the conversation between the two servants and walked toward the house.

Mother Lu was sitting inside the living room and rubbing her temples. Her hair was a little messy and the corners of her eyes red. Comparing this Mother Lu to the one that she knew, this one was much more disheveled. There were crows feet in her normally very well maintained face. She aged a lot more and weariness could be seen in her eyes.

Father Lu, sitting quietly next to her, almost looked weary.

“Xiao Jue had fallen asleep from the medications. You should get some rest too.” His wife had not rested much since the night before.

Mother Lu shook her head. “I can’t sleep. Xiao Jue had been hurting himself more and more frequently lately. I worried that he would one day……”

They had sent Lu Jue to treatment centers in the past for sessions and medications, but nothing seemed to be effective. He still hurt himself a lot. They had tried to communicate with him and to calm him down, but nothing came out of those efforts either.

Father Lu put his arms around his wife and comforted her. “He won’t. You shouldn’t worry yourself with that.”

Ning Zhi’s eyes dimmed and she walked upstairs.

Ning Zhi entered into Lu Jue’s room walking right through his door. She immediately saw Lu Jue lying in bed, straight. Next to bed sat a male nurse in white uniform.

Ning Zhi walked over to the bed.

She noticed a few red marks on Lu Jue’s left cheek. They looked to be caused by scratching. According to the servants, he had done that to himself.

Lu Jue’s skin was cold and white, making the red marks very pronounced.

Ning Zhi reached out her hand and gently touched his cheek with her fingers. She felt as though her heart was being pricked by needles and the pain was excruciating.

Lu Jue’s fringe was long and it covered his eyes. His face was injured and he was so skinny that there were barely any muscles on his cheeks. His thin lips were so dry they were almost chapped.

Ning Zhi gently held onto Lu Jue’s hand.

His hand was cool; icy, almost. His nail was cut very short and filed down. She could see his veins on the back of his hand clearly. He was so skinny that it was just skin over bones.

Ning Zhi’s eyes tingled.

So that was what Lu Jue looked like had he not recovered.
