It was very quiet inside the room.

The male nurse was dozing off next to them.

Ning Zhi bent down and brushed away Lu Jue’s bangs that was covering his eyes.

His eyes opened up abruptly the very next second.

Ning Zhi’s fingertips paused a little. Meeting Lu Jue’s blank and pitch-black eyes, she felt a slight glee. “Lu Jue.”

Lu Jue did not respond to her nor looked at her. He looked quietly at the ceiling and did not move.

Lu Jue’s condition was much worse than before Ning Zhi’s transmigration.

Ning Zhi did not pull her hand back. She gently bushed his bangs apart to both sides so she could see his clear eyes and brows. She looked into his eyes.

SMACK!

Ning Zhi’s hand was slapped away by Lu Jue the next moment.

Lu Jue sat up but he would neither look at Ning Zhi or let her touch him. His bangs fell back down over his forehead and covered his eyes once again. He lowered his head and sat there quietly. It was as though he could neither hear anything nor see anyone around him.

“Lu Jue.” Ning Zhi wanted to approach him but Lu Jue had already turned his back to her before she was able to get close to him.

Ning Zhi stood behind Lu Jue. She felt that this Lu Jue might not even know her.

Afterall, this was a parallel universe. She did not exist in this universe and, without her, Lu Jue would not be cured. He would die like the way it was described in the novel.

“Do you recognize me, Lu Jue?” asked Ning Zhi.

Lu Jue, with his back to her, did not respond.

Ning Zhi’s eyes dimmed. No wonder Overlord had warned her that this would not be an easy assignment.

She tried to touch his hand carefully. Their fingertips touched and he did not fling her hand away.

Ning Zhi looked happier. She wrapped her fingers around his and slowly, she was able to hold his hand.

It was then when she noticed that his hand was icy cold and that there were cuts in the middle of his palm.

“Lu Jue.” Lu Jue’s hand was bigger than Ning Zhi’s. She interlaced her fingers with his and their hands intertwined.

Ning Zhi held his hand and brought it up to her cheek. She rubbed her cheek against it gently. “I’m sorry I was late.”

She came way too late this time.

Ning Zhi’s face was fair, smooth, soft, and elastic. Lu Jue pulled her hand back, startled, when his hand made contact with Ning Zhi’s cheek.

Ning Zhi stood in front of him and her voice was as soft as it could be. She wooed him. “It’s alright. I won’t hurt you.”

Lu Jue lowered his head and did not make a sound.

He got out of bed and, as soon as his feet touched the floor, the male nurse had woken up. “Young Master Lu Jue.”

Lu Jue lowered his head, he was not wearing any shoes. Lu Jue traversed the dark grey carpet in his bare feet over to a corner. His large body squatted down slowly.

Apparently, the male nurse was already used to Lu Jue’s behavior and did not try to stop him. He continued to sit to one side and watched over Lu Jue. Mainly, his job was to take care of Lu Jue, not let him hurt himself and also make sure that he took his medicines.

Ning Zhi walked over to where Lu Jue was and also squatted down just like Lu Jue did.

She looked around. All the walls were layered with white, thick paddings to prevent Lu Jue from banging his head against the walls and hurting himself. Even the corners were covered up carefully.

Lu Jue squatted there quietly. His head was lowered and his eyes covered by his bangs. Ning Zhi was not able to see his look at all.

Ning Zhi stayed there quietly, keeping Lu Jue company. Once again, she placed her hand gently over his that was placed over his knee. He did not respond to that at all.

Ning Zhi did not make a sound. She just left her hand there gently and waited for him to get used to it.
