“Sit down. The movie is about to start.”

Lu Jue shoved the straw inside the bottle and handed it over. “Zhizhi drink.”

Ning Zhi exchanged for contact time before lowering her head and took a sip from the straw. It was strawberry flavored yogurt and it was sweet, sour, and cold.

Lu Jue’s eyes lit up a little. He was feeding Zhizhi.

Ning Zhi took a few sips and said to him, “Thank you, you can have some too.”

Ning Zhi leaned back in her seat and started to watch the movie that had started.

Lu Jue lowered his head and looked blankly at the bottle of yogurt that Ning Zhi had drank out of. The corners of his lips curved upward in an unfamiliar way. Holding up the bottle of yogurt solemnly with both hands, Lu Jue docilely took the straw that Ning Zhi had once used into his mouth and started drinking.

Sweet and delightful, his mouth was filled with a milky taste.

It was quiet around her and, when Ning Zhi looked over, she saw Lu Jue with his messy hair, his eyes moist and bright, holding his yogurt with both hands and drinking it docilely and seriously.

That, along with the red marks on his cheeks, made him look cute and pitiful.

Her little heart fluttered and she couldn't help but scooted closer to her. “Is it tasty?”

Lu Jue nodded after a long white.

The comedy went on on the screen. Ning Zhi was sitting right up against Lu Jue. She wasn’t sure if he was paying attention to the movie at all.

Shortly thereafter, the comical skit was over and the storyline turned to mushiness. The male lead hugged the female lead and the two started to kiss in front of a hotel.

Ning Zhi didn’t think much of the plot but Lu Jue was next to her. She turned to look at him.

She saw Lu Jue looking blankly showing no discernible changes.

Ning Zhi held his hand in the dim light and he did not jerk away from her. Slowly, she stroked his fingers and his palm with her fingers. She could feel some scars and had no idea how they were made.

“Lu Jue, you need to stop hurting yourself.”

Lu Jue lowered his head and looked at Ning Zhi. He was used to being in the dark. He was much more comfortable in the dark then in a light environment. He looked at Ning Zhi’s delicate little face.

Ning Zhi ran the tip of her finger over a scar on his palm. “Your head, your hand, your feet, and even your body are all mine. When you get hurt or bleed, you are hurting me.”

She placed his hand over her chest. “You don’t feel pain when you get hurt but it hurts me here, a lot.

“Do you understand what you are saying?” Ning Zhi worried that Lu Jue would resume his self-harming behaviors after she left.

Lu Jue could feel the softness and heat under his palm. His ears were hot and red.

Looking at his dazed look, Ning Zhi let go of his hand and rubbed his ear instead. “Do you hear me? You are not allowed to hit yourself, or bit yourself, or throw yourself at a wall, or bang your head on the table in the future. You are also not allowed to cut yourself with a knife. All in all, you are not allowed to hurt yourself. Can you promise me that?”

Lu Jue blinked.

“I will cry every time you hurt yourself.” Ning Zhi threatened him. “I will cry where you can’t see and I will cry myself to death.”

This time Lu Jue understood what she was saying. He panicked and looked worried. “No cry Zhizhi. No dying Zhizhi.”

“Then promise me.”

“Promise Zhizhi.” Lu Jue nodded docilely.

Ning Zhi followed up. “What are you promising me?”

“No hitting myself.” Lu Jue looked at her. “Zhizhi will cry.”

“That’s right. I will cry and I will be heartbroken.” Ning Zhi looked at Lu Jue’s stern and serious face and her heart shuddered. She liked him so much.

The night thickened and it quieted down around them.
