Jiang MingYuan’s attitude made it difficult for Cheng Huan to continue to criticize him. All of the scenarios that she had played through in her head previously was in vain. Cheng Huan thought a lot but she finally said dryly, “What is it that you want?”

“Naturally, I came looking for you because I want to recognize my child.” Seeing that the woman in front of him had changed colors, Jiang MingYuan added, “Of course, that by no means meant that I want to fight you over him. He will still stay with you. I only want the child to know that he has a father and that I can do what a father should do.”

He picked up his cup of tea, took a sip, and said, “After all, he wouldn’t always believe that his father is superman.”

The last part of his words was very hurtful. 

XingXing was four years old now so he would still believe in such a poor lie. When he became older, way before he even started grade school, just in a couple of years’ time he probably wouldn’t believe that any more. 

Children from single-parent family were more likely to be teased or made fun of. Cheng Huan had thought about that before. Many nights she had laid in bed and asked herself whether she should get married and to form what would seem like a more normal family. But she had always chucked away that idea. 

She was not that interested in men. Nor did she believe that there were truly a lot of stable families within this impetuous society. 

Plus, if she was to get married, whether she was going to have more children was another hassle. 

It would not be a bad thing if XingXing could have both parents without her having to get married.

Except that this person was the wrong candidate for the part. 

Ever since she had transmigrated, Cheng Huan had never thought about having anything to do with the male or female leads. Perhaps a different person might think that doing some thigh-hugging was not a bad idea. After all, the male lead’s net worth was detailed within the novel and that any crumbs from him would still be a sizeable amount of money.

Cheng Huan pursed her lips, raised her brows, and said, “It had been just the two of us for the longest time. Having a father or not would not make too much of a difference to him. Plus, he’s older now and already remembers a lot. It would be odd to have someone barge into his life suddenly at this point.”

If what Jiang MingYuan had said to Cheng Huan earlier was hurtful, what Cheng Huan had said was an equivalent to her stabbing Jiang MingYuan with a knife. 

He wasn’t very invested previously, but now that he had developed feelings for XingXing, he regretted deeply about not being able to be in XingXing’s life sooner. Besides, as calm as he may seemed, he had no idea whether XingXing would accept him or not. 

“How would you know if he would be accustomed to or accept me as his father with it if we don’t try?” Jiang MingYuan looked down at the tea cup and his long eyelashes that looked exactly the same as XingXing’s hid the emotions in his eyes. His tone remained unchanged and he sounded like he was having a discussion with Cheng Huan. “I understand it would be odd to suddenly tell this to him, but it would be much easier after we have spent some time together.”

He looked up at Cheng Huan and said, “I can tell that the kid likes me. I trust that we will get along nicely.”

That was true. XingXing did seem to like Jiang MingYuan quite a bit. 

Whether it was because the two of them were related by blood, she didn’t know. XingXing had liked him since day one. Otherwise, he would not have played with a stranger for the entire night. Nor would he recall him right away after over half a month had passed.
