Jiang MingYuan was not interested in having photos taken and reflexively wanted to decline her. Then something else occurred to him and he nodded instead.
And that was how the matters of taking photos had been decided.
The beach wasn’t very far from the barrack but it was still more than half an hour walk away. Luckily there were white touring cars available for rental. 100 yuan each time, with having a driver being an option.
The three of them rented one.
The touring car was electric and looked very much like a tricycle. There was a driver seat in the front and two seats in the back. There were no doors or windows, both sides were open.
As there were only three spots, naturally they would not be able to hire a driver. As such, the important task of driving finally fell on Jiang MingYuan’s shoulders.
Jiang MingYuan had driven many cars in his life, ranging from hundreds of thousand to tens of million yuan but this was his first time driving an electric car.
He felt a bit awkward as well. He took a few looks after he had gotten inside of the car, feeling uncertain.
“We really won’t fall out of it?” Jiang MingYuan expressed his concern about the safety of these electric cars.
Cheng Huan sat there properly with one hand around XingXing and the other one grabbing the handle. “Just drive slowly. I’m sure it will be fine.”
“I guess.” Jiang MingYuan sighed, started the car, and drove out of the parking lot.
The road from the barracks to the beach was very flat and they could see many other tourists riding in similar electric cars like theirs on their way. XingXing had been on Cheng Huan’s tricycle before so he was very used to car. He sat there docilely and did not move around.
As with many other tropical islands, there were many coconut trees on Red Coral Island. The coconut trees were planted on both sides of the road and grew straight up. They were full of fruits and there would be tourists who would stop and try to pick them.
XingXing turned his head and when he saw that, his mouth slowly formed into an “O” shape as he made a surprised noise.
On the side of the street was a young couple in their twenties. The man had his arms around the tree climbing upward and he was already half way up. The woman waited at the bottom of the tree and looked up at him, telling him to be careful.
Her boyfriend’s motions were smooth and he reached the top of the tree shortly. With one hand holding onto the tree, he carefully reached out and picked a coconut with the other.
The coconut came off the tree and the man tossed it down. His girlfriend screamed as she ran away before she then chased after it while she laughed. After she had picked it up, she went over to one side and told her boyfriend to pick another.
Their car had already passed the couple but XingXing was still turning his head to look at them. He was very curious. “Mommy, that green egg is so huge!”
“That’s not an egg; it’s a coconut.” Cheng Huan corrected him and told him in details what a coconut was, how they grew on trees, and how to eat them.
Hearing that it was edible, XingXing became even more interested. He turned and looked at the coconut trees on the side of the road. Then, looking at Jiang MingYuan at the driver’s seat, he said, “Can Daddy pick them too? I want to have one also.”
Jiang MingYuan was being extreme cautious when he drove and making sure that they would not get into an accident. He didn’t react immediately when XingXing talked to him. When he realized what XingXing was saying, he was even more quiet than before.
Not only is a father all capable in the eyes of their children. Fathers also want to be omnipotent in the eyes of their children. Jiang MingYuan didn’t know how to tell XingXing that he didn’t know how to climb a tree. He didn’t want to disappoint XingXing.
