After the broth had been boiling rapidly for 10 minutes, the soup began to turn a white. Cheng Huan pull the fish bones out and poured in the filets that she had prepared earlier. This dish was ready after shimmering for 2 minutes.

A fish was pretty sizeable. This one dish was enough for the three of them. As Cheng Huan poured the fish and pickled cabbage soup from the pot into a bowl, the pattern of the bowl reminded her that XingXing was just soaking his hands inside of it. That had, in turn, reminded her of the question that XingXing had asked. Then, inevitably, she recalled the reply that may or may not have happened.

“Daddy.” XingXing asked amidst the nose of the exhaust. “Am I going to turn white after soaking in milk?”

Jiang MingYuan fell silent for a little bit. “…. That Daddy doesn’t know.”

“Why doesn’t Daddy know?” XingXing didn’t understand. In his eyes, his Daddy was omnipotent. How could he not have an answer for such a minor question?

“Let mommy take a look at where it’s hurting?” Cheng Huan didn’t really feel that anything was out of the ordinary after she had turned away. She grabbed XingXing’s hand and checked out his fingers. All his fingers looked fine and she couldn’t tell anything was wrong.

XingXing, on the other hand, stopped caring about his own fingers. He looked at her with his big eyes and, after a little while, turned to look at Jiang MingYuan, then back at Cheng Huan.

“What’s the matter?” Cheng Huan couldn’t read the look on him.

Then, before Cheng Huan could stop him, he dialed Jiang MingYuan.

Jiang MingYuan was still in a meeting after hours and someone from the upper management were speaking. Half way through his talk, a phone rang abruptly.

Everybody looked at each other and there was admiration in their eyes for the owner of the cellphone. Everybody knew that that boss hadn’t been in the best of mood lately. How would this person not know to put his phone on vibrate before the meeting had started?
